It took less than a week for Bari Weiss’ CBS to elevate a non-story by a Free Press influencer-blogger ‘journalist’, who wrote the story about the famine and emaciated children in Gaza being ‘fake’ because they had pre-existing conditions, to national news.
newsjennifer.bsky.social
CBS News would never put a thinly sourced 'story' by a rookie blogger like this on it's air. Until now. The Free Press isn't a journalism outlet, it's bloggers aren't reporters. This piece is more NYPost than Tiffany Network but I guess that's the goal.

Today’s wellness check was very funny because one of the visitors, Steven, picked up from how I speak that I was into philosophy and so started probing me on topics and eventually he was asking me my thoughts about AI and digital ID and by the end it was like he didn’t want to leave lmao.

Blessed bluesky poster: everyone is stupid, *especially* me
gregk.co.uk
In the rush to quote or reply with attestations to their own superior knowledge, I feel like some people forget that, sometimes, when someone says something, they’re not necessarily making a declarative statement themselves; they’re just thinking.
gregk.co.uk
Worst type of Bluesky poster by far.
Homer Simpson lying on the couch, smoking a cigar. The caption reads:

EVERYONE IS STUPID
EXCEPT ME.

In their defiance of human comprehension, let alone neat summation, great tragedies often lend themselves to descriptions which lay bare the intimacy between the apocalyptic and the absurd. It is in this spirit that I say that the past two years have been a massive, contemptible waste of time.

Worth emphasizing that Trump's singular trick for facilitating a deal in Israel was just...being publicly frustrated with Netanyahu and threatening to walk. That's not a unique talent, it's just a thing Biden personally and ideologically was unwilling to do. Lowest bar cleared to great relief.

I think Clarity-Bleed American-Futures is an all-time three-album run. After that it’s a bit more spotty but still great. I actually wrote an essay years back about how their incredibly ordinary look maybe informs why I love them so much. I might give it a revision and repost.

(Disclaimer: On the mend now) Last Tuesday I thought the song Sugar We’re Going Down by Fall Out Boy was a coded message from the universe to kill myself so you know what I mean when I say ahhh yeah I recognise this shit but no one was offering me billions of dollars when I was doing it lmao
gregk.co.uk
And I hope people can understand what I’m saying when I say it’s funny how we can all recognise what’s happening when it’s Kanye West undergoing a severe mental health crisis but when it’s white billionaires doing it to themselves pharmacologically our leaders all clap and open their wallets.
gregk.co.uk
There is nothing profound or revelatory here. These are just drug-induced manic episodes being broadcast on a world stage by people who can afford to both stave off the inevitable crash and hide themselves from the world when it inevitably comes. It’s all incredibly sad, cynical and terrifying.
gregk.co.uk
I can’t express how dually maddening and affirming it is to have spent years reading philosophy and theory trying to make sense of myself, my politics and my place in the universe as our leaders get worked by dickheads who believe they’ve cracked the code by abusing amphetamines and watching anime.
flyingrodent.bsky.social
They’re morons, they’re just dickheads who accidentally struck it rich by chance, not by merit, and this system does not give a fuck about the ability or morality of the idiots who relentlessly quest to amass as much money as possible
gregk.co.uk
Imagine dropping a record Clarity then stepping back out two years later with this lead single like “Wassup”
gregk.co.uk
The basic contradiction of the Internet as I see it is every healthy online space needs its Mods to deal with the dickheads (as Elon Musk’s Twitter handily demonstrates), but more importantly, and in direct tension with that, it needs its renegades, its outlaws, whose only crime is being too real.

That time my dad got suspended on facebook

A text messsage exchange follows:

I've been blocked on Facebook I have another 14 hours lol

Because I'm a rebel

Daughter
Why are u blocked on facebook? Lol

Dadther
Because consciousness is a terrible curse. I think. I feel. I suffer. And all I ask in return is the opportunity to do my work. And they won't allow it... because I raise issues.

Fascism is the childish belief that the world can be put in order, and the use of infinite deadly force to achieve that end, invariably to no avail
gregk.co.uk
It’s important to remember that fascism is a politics that aspires for a unity of ideology, Law, justice and morality through action (violence) and that an anti-fascist politics therefore embraces the messiness that comes from disaggregating that unity and honouring the messiness it entails.
gregk.co.uk
This is why I detest certain YouTubers who reduce ‘questions’ of ‘philosophy’ to deontologism vs. utilitarianism and then base their entire politics on a commitment to the former. I see what you’re doing there! I know how that trick works; claiming the boulder but disavowing its roll! I see you!

Frankly, the process of crystallising one’s priors and one’s ends *should* make the path between messier! It’s the space that potentially compromises the priors and fails the ends! To think politically for me is to recognise the immanent connection between a belief, its pursuit and its consummation.
gregk.co.uk
The more clear I’ve become in my political principles, values and ends, the more I’ve come to appreciate arts and texts that destabilise the space between. I like art that force me to think hard about what it might take to get there. That’s a question we should all be asking right now.

Moreover they simply have no conception of how something can be ‘provocative’ without an ideological valence; that a cultural object might function to provoke thought and inquiry without leading you to a conclusion. Hence why their ‘provocative’ thinkers take the form of Kirk or Daily Wire’s output.

[SPOILER] My preferred read on the MKU is as an ironic remark on the endless budding-off of the US security apparatus into new initials (FBI, OSS, CIA, ATF, NSA, DEA, DHS, ICE, LAPD, NYPD, LASD) through the use of a new initial whose meaning is redundant because whatever; it's all the same thing.
useofweapons.bsky.social
Yeah when I was watching OBAA I was thinking are these guys federal police? ICE? National Guard? Some kind of military unit seconded to the police? Eventually I just decided eh they're representative of militarised policing in the US and was done with it.
gregk.co.uk
[SPOILER] Lockjaw's unit is referred to as the MKU, which is never explicitly defined, but apparently in the credits there's a section covering 'Mankind United', which could either be an ironic paranym for what the group is doing, or a statement on who 'Mankind' is considered to be in this world.
gregk.co.uk
[SPOILER] One observation I think supports a 'near-future' reading is that the film depicts a wide array of hyper-militarised agents of the state decked out in camo and military gear but all of their uniforms simply identify them as 'POLICE'. We're not there – yet – but we're close.
gregk.co.uk
[SPOILER] One important thing on this point: When Perfidia is arrested there are cops taking selfies with modern phones. There is then a 16-year gap. It’s possible the film is depicting a near-future scenario! Even this one sentence betrays, in my opinion, a pitiful inability to read media!

“For this movie to make any sense at all, one has to believe the United States, today, right now, is a fascist dictatorship,”

I don't know what to say, but the movie made a lot of sense to me.
