We need to understand the 21st century as a window of atrocity. The right vastly expands what is permissible, and the centrists lock it in and legitimise it so that the right can expand the window ever further. I don’t see how any reasonable person can deny this is what has happened.

One undercovered aspect of the Epstein emails is the work on reputation management. Working to ensure your Wiki article doesn’t mention anything untoward, and is instead “pretty tame” is well known in my industry but I don’t think its ubiquity or importance is broadly recognised.

One of the big issues of our time is seeing 'young people cant afford homes' and 'homeowners cant afford to be taxed more' as two separate problems, rather than the inevitable consequence of an economy built around inflated house prices to placate landlords
Some sympathy for this potentially made up woman but I wonder how the poster feels about the numerous people who would love to be able to call a house their own and form relationships with their neighbours but can't because of the housing market. Does their emotional plea count for anything?

Re. Farage being racist in his youth, imo is not that much of a story or a suprise. But if it tells us anything today, it's that the lesson Farage learnt in his youth was that it could be fun to bully people, and that he has built several political movements that valorise being a dickhead

I mean the thing about trying to govern with no political ambitions is that your opponents can just project whatever they want onto it and there's nothing you can really do to stop them

yes I don't really see how you can go "oh yikes these people have changed their political views incredibly quickly, mostly because of what Very Online people talk about on social media" and also think that people who went from never talking about gender to calling trans women predators are....normal
I don’t like subtweeting people I consider online friends, but there is a subset of people who are very worried about the ongoing radicalisation of our political elite but won’t ever acknowledge the echoes with the radicalisation of their colleagues on trans rights
And few who are sympathetic to us, some who are friendly with me on here, will ever stick their head above the parapet
