The "don't have an extra kid if you can't afford it" brigade get awfully upset when you suggest they don't stay in their £2m house if they can't afford it, don't they?

One of the big issues of our time is seeing 'young people cant afford homes' and 'homeowners cant afford to be taxed more' as two separate problems, rather than the inevitable consequence of an economy built around inflated house prices to placate landlords
Some sympathy for this potentially made up woman but I wonder how the poster feels about the numerous people who would love to be able to call a house their own and form relationships with their neighbours but can't because of the housing market. Does their emotional plea count for anything?
Mumsnet is already on the case.

Why is it that the guys posting great replacement rants on Instagram always have feeds full of them holding giant fish? What is the fish-to-fascism pipeline?

We need to smash this untruth shared by Nick Robinson on #r4today, and by his mates in the Tory/Reform party, that working people will be funding people who do not work with the lifting of the benefit cap.

They are very often the same people. 60% of beneficiaries are IN WORK and many others ...

Literally!! The right wing papers Hate You Anyway!! Why not give them something to Really Hate You For, and know - at least - people will thank you in ten years time???
Serious howls of outrage in the media this morning at what is a relatively modest Budget from Labour that does nothing more than fiddle around the margins.

It does highlight the missed opportunity. If you’re going to get this reaction anyway, why not at least get it for attempting a big swing?

Scrapping the two-child benefit cap is a huge win - but why has it taken this long?

Steady hands on a sinking ship. Today’s budget was for two audiences: fractious backbenchers and our fiscal overlords. A few progressive tweaks, but ultimately, a missed opportunity for substantial reform and the change this country needs.

Great analysis from @zoegrunewald.bsky.social for @theleaduk.bsky.social on today’s budget. Echoes my own thoughts about an overall sense of unambitious tinkering, despite some clear positives (2 child cap finally lifted)

This was a budget aimed at quelling backbenchers and feeding our Market Overlords. It may have bought the government more time, but all the structural issues remain. You can't tweak your way out of crisis.
