THE LEPER IN THE CITY

We talk to the author of ‘Biopolitics as a System of Thought’ about Giorgio Agamben’s concepts of bare life & the state of exception, and how our techno-capitalist present limits how we think and approach life & politics.

Love that you can kind of see in Mamdani how Eli struggles to depict regular normal people with untarnished souls. Beautiful.

Very convenient to be able to shove the transphobia that got this girl killed under the carpet and blame phones instead and be able to deny any criticism like that
Maybe Esther doesn’t think its insulting, but its rubbing salt in the wound to the whole trans community

When Rosie Duffield is in on it I think we can safely say the anti-phone campaign in Brianna's name is actively at odds with tackling transphobia

Anyway, I think Dems are right to believe subsidy expiration, because many Americans will suffer and maybe die, is going to hurt Republicans in the midterms. A less harmful way to do well in elections, though, is to offer voters a compelling vision for why they should vote, affirmatively, for you.

I would like to personally thank establishment liberals on both sides of the Atlantic for dedicating the past decade to an aggressive rearguard action against their progressive left flank which even some of them now admit produced nothing except a decade of wasted time and an ascendant far-right.
"Chuck Schumer should go ... he's no longer capable of leading the Democratic Party."
"I am an establishment Democrat and I'm here to say that Bernie Sanders is much more in line with where I and many other Democrats are today than Chuck Schumer is."

getting harder to argue that the establishment democrats actually care about winning and accomplishing things, isn't it. in the sense of defeating the republicans and enacting the policies they run on, anyway

America has a substantial white Christian Evangelical population and activating them politically was a 40+ year project. These guys think they’re gonna make Christian Nationalism work here when the population is secularising and most devout Christians are among the immigrant groups they despise.
A strange post from the Ukip leader, pictured at the Aldershot memorial, but seeming to want people to believe/imagine it was the Cenotaph

This had already begun happening the moment Julani seized power and was a predictable outcome of a multi-ethnic country with a former Alawite leader being conquered by a militant fundamentalist Sunni faction, but both politicians and the press ignored it to focus on development and free trade deals.

For some people, politics is largely and blessedly a spectator sport featuring a good side and a bad side, in which the good side must always a priori be doing the smartest and most strategic thing, which must necessarily be inscrutable to others, especially critics. These are the purest of Quocels.
I have so much contempt for Schumer but his defenders who insist that he’s actually a master tactician who’s working for us are arguably even more contemptible
