From the earliest basic PC graphic tools onward i always thought "neato! Now i can draw a perfect ellipsis" and similar but i never thought it would make me an artist or a graphic designer. It is fun to be able to make cool doodles but talentless guys prompting AI videos are just making doodles

I hope that this doesn't just become about "Nuzzi is bad" but fosters a wider recognition that our culture of political journalism that didn't just tolerate her, but promoted and celebrated her even after the allegations were known, is rotten to the core and has been for a long time.
this was bad before, but these are the most troubling and serious allegations you can make about a journalist. if they’re true, i genuinely can’t think of a worse scandal in the history of political journalism. devastating to our industry, to public trust as a whole, and to everyone in its orbit

Like I say: in America, they have Fox News. In Britain everything is Fox News, whether in the screaming shit-up-the-walls version of the Mail or in the arm’s length Many People Would Contend We Need More Migrant Camps form of BBC News. And this is much, much worse.

Central to the 2010s Legitimate Concerns discourse that paved the way for our current pre-fascist moment was the refusal to acknowledge that these "concerns" were based on demonstrable fictions, filtered through socially constructed prejudices. I.e. they were not, in fact, "legitimate".
"A new poll suggests nearly half of Britons think there are more migrants in the UK illegally than legally, but in reality just 7% arrive through irregular channels"

The reason that we reporters are focused so intensely on the L'affair Nuzzi is that, as Olivia notes, it is a basically apocalyptic scandal in the most literal sense of that term: a dropping of masks. It's acting as confirmation of every hideous story anybody's ever told about political journalists

This fallacy should henceforth be known as a Barro's Blunder.
Anyway, the world does not need another post dunking on Josh Barro. What it does need, is a word for the fallacy where you make up some weird stereotype about people, and then when it turns out they don't actually act that way, you think that's something strange about *them*.

yeah it’s bad that Lizza has been sitting on this for so long but also how cursory and inept was that Vox investigation that not only managed to miss the biggest scandal in the history of American political journalism but affirmatively exonerated her bsky.app/profile/bkel...
So the editor of New York Magazine said there was no bias or ethical problems with Olivia's articles?

Does he still think that?

They should retract all of her stories

Lololololol

We, by which I mean, taxpayers, are going to end up bailing out Tether “ stable coin” holders and Dems should right now be preparing their political offensive for what they are going to do with that opportunity.

Unsurprising given other similar arguments they've made recently but still shocking to see figures within government argue that scrapping the two-child benefit cap would be bad because it would increase racism. A new thing to blame ethnic minorities for in this country!

0.2% growth in productivity over five years from "AI".

That's your revolution, lads, really?

The sort of blip that could be reversed by a particularly rainy bank holiday.
Anyway, tech-wise, AI will have a "positive effect on productivity growth", the OBR say, with a 0.2 percentage point impact in five years

this must be all that 'the bbc is captured by gender ideology' that @maitlis.bsky.social, @jonsopel1.bsky.social, and @lewisgoodall.com were bravely standing up against when they helped propagate a whole bunch of dangerous medical disinformation, that has got several kids killed since, on newsnight.
the bbc changed their article from saying 'trans woman' to saying 'biological male who identifies as a woman'.

even if you don't care about trans ppl it should alarm you just how captured the bbc has become.

they will no longer even say 'trans woman'. that's not normal and shows massive bias.

something which doesn't get enough attention: as anyone who deals with elderly people knows, *any* upgrade - software or forced hardware - is like a nuclear bomb on their existence and is enraging
yah even 'better camera' which was the selling point for higher price/newer models has plateaued. at some point my decision will be 'replace battery or replace phone' but i won't actually need a hardware improvement

Labour party today:
- Disabled people can’t drive Audis, BMWs and Mercedes on Motability. No to £25k Audis but £36k Nissans are fine
- Discredited PFI to return for funding NHS projects
- Trial by jury to be axed except for most serious cases

That’s just today

I don’t particularly care to debate the merits of the British vs continental justice systems when the obvious core issue here is that these people cannot be trusted with anything, and they have repeatedly demonstrated how thoroughly untrustworthy they are.

One good thing about Bari Weiss is that she articulates the worldview of the 0.00001% with total clarity, and thereby makes it obvious that they are dangerously out of their minds.
