And one problem with "british people can do these jobs" is many of "these jobs" are state adjacent (carers) and the state is psychotically opposed to paying people more

A "funny" thing is everybody in the industry knows this but will still appeal to "the market" about the lack of left wing outlets

i'd give them a pass for not doing it on the first budget if they *didn't make a massive deal out of punishing people over their vote* just insane stuff

Maddening that even if "your speech outside of work shouldn't get you fired" is defensible and even good, generally, "you can't be fired for being a fucking asshole to your colleagues because being a bigot is protected" is a bizarre nonsensical extension of that

I suspect if, in 2022, an internet rodent had said that the right wing press would yell at labour no matter what, there would be howls of rage about you daring to disparage the very fine serious journalists working at those places.

this is the type of thing they mean when they argue the civil service is always trying to block their brilliant ideas - just raising issues of implementation

i don't know how everything works in the UK, but "you pay nothing extra if your house is value at 1.999 mil and 2500 if it valued at 2.01 mil" would involve lawsuits by everyone contesting the assessed value
