It looks like every Irish outlet (that I've seen so far) has just transcribed a wire services report about the Linehan trial that is *dripping* with anti trans bias, misgendering the victim, calling the teenage victim an "activist" but not Linehan, and eliding the fact that the victim was a child

The undersea cables being discussed here are the private property of tech multinationals. Maybe they should be paying for the defence of their property instead of expecting Irish taxpayers to pony up.
When it comes to modern war, Ireland is a high-value target: its waters on the western fringe of Europe contain three-quarters of all undersea cables in the northern hemisphere. Despite this, is unprotected and unprepared.

Given the multiple crises facing the country at present, I think whatever TD is wasting Dáil time on this tasteless, trivial sycophancy should resign and join a circus.
The Dáil has heard a suggestion that Dublin Airport be named after the former Taoiseach Sean Lemass.

Any counteroffers?

Ireland should be doing this too. There isn’t an alarm bell big enough to wake this government up. We should be in crisis mode, but instead it’s still shaking-developers’-hands-at-the-race-course, business as usual.

Making literature of any kind illegal is one step towards being able to manufacture evidence that your perceived enemies are much more vast and dangerous than they are .

This is a floating signifier of sorts that will be used to target anyone the fascists see as a threat to their power.

imo the conversation in the US needs to rapidly move on from "troops may/should disobey illegal orders" to "troops must disobey illegal orders and those who commit crimes, as a result of orders or otherwise, will be prosecuted after the regime falls"

Here's the Department of Justice confirming it has no plans to give certain people already lawfully resident here the right to work, despite (a) a labour shortage and (b) a panic about inward migration levels. Madness #speirghorm

In Ireland, more properties were bought this year by landlords than by people hoping to live in them. Mostly large landlords, not the sainted mom and pops of it all. People who already own tens or hundreds of properties bought even more of them. They're not fleeing the market, they're destroying it.

COP30 overpromised, underdelivered, empowered distractions, backtracked on issues and once again gave big oil and big ag a free pass.

Unfortunately, the suspicions of climate scientists (here in Brazil and abroad) were confirmed again.

When tributes roll in for Margaretta D'Arcy, remember she was an incredible ally to sex workers. Rest in Peace Margaretta
Last night, we attended the Women's 24-hour Vigil outside the Dáil. We joined Galway legend Margaretta D'Arcy, Raging Grannies, Red Umbrella Éireann, Street Workers Collective of Ireland, and Global Women's Strike.

Ireland needs to invest in care, not in military spending!

1. Family reunification is ALREADY limited to "close family"

2. Forcing people to avoid claiming benefits they are entitled to and need under threat of being refused citizenship is horrifically cruel. That was the policy under Michael McDowell and it caused great hardship to the most vulnerable.
New: major overhaul of immigration laws to see citizenship denied to those who got welfare, or are in debt. Family reunification only for close family, tighter rules around self sufficiency. Changes to revoke residency for those who commit serious crimes

if you think of colonialism as economic, physical and ideological domination, you'll see that the planet is colonised by a handful men

also, the goal of colonisation is not to keep earth habitable. it's the opposite: take, extract, and destroy
Humans will NEVER colonize another planet. Never.

If we can’t even agree to do the minimum to keep Earth habitable, there’s no way in hell we’ll cooperate to make another planet habitable.

Only other thing i’ll say is that they’re obviously conducting the trial to see how well blockers stop kids being trans instead of actually help them, that is the metric they’re doing it by like all trans state healthcare always has
Not gonna engage with the puberty blocker trial story cause as someone who had the experience of going through the medical gatekeeping before getting them was pretty traumatic and my experience is luxurious compared to whats happening in the uk now and its just too upsetting honestly

The government still claim that they have to consult with the Attorney General about including services alongside goods in the #OccupiedTerritoriesBill. In fact, the AG previously delivered 23 pages of legal advice, which did not flag the need for any distinction between goods and services.

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

An X user asks Elon Musk why they’re seeing tweets from left-wing lawmakers.

Musk: “Because we are failing very badly with the recommendations algorithm. Doing my best to address this.”
