A brothel is a premises where 2 or more sex workers are present, so these statistics are not comforting to us. We know sex workers are being prosecuted for working together for safety.

Ireland is hypocritical when it comes to contraception. On the one hand, it funds organisations to give out free condoms, and on the other, it allows Gardaí to use condoms as evidence that sex work has occurred.

Historically, brothel keeping laws in Ireland have overwhelmingly been used to prosecute individual sex workers working with friends for safety, as opposed to persons who are brothel managers or owners.

We reiterate the call for guidelines for the National Referral Mechanism as soon as possible. We agreed that Direct Provision is not suitable for trafficking victims as we feel it can compound trauma and is not fit for purpose.
