I’ve found that many academics confuse their idiosyncratic tastes about how academic work should be done with laws that everyone else must follow.

This tendency shows up again and again in their feedback and advice.

Notes on process: this piece was desk rejected once and accepted after one round of revisions at PSRM.

In a pre-reg visual conjoint set-up based on a fictitious public consultation, *both* nativists and nativists reject policy recommendations from muslim associations.

@simonhix.bsky.social shared some feedback from his students on our apsr piece explaining that - if our theory holds - we would expect to see respondents move away from those exposed to the Muslim out-group regardless of whether they are opponents *or* proponents of a policy.

In this paper we ask: does the theory hold regardless of the policy type (femonationalism, homonationalism, econationalism) *and* the direction of the policy

In our first paper on instrumental inclusion we showed that people update their views on LGBTQ+ rights in response to out-group threat.

Here we extend the theory to test diverse cases of selective inclusion

We study whether citizens’ liberal values are selective: do people support policies based on who promotes them?

Short answer: Yes, and it's driven by ethnic out-group disidentification. (1/11) 👇

For the historical polling nerds out there, an article about our project with @ropercenter.bsky.social that digitised ~800 surveys by Gallup poll in Britain between 1955 and 1991 has been published in JEPOP. The merged dataset contains over three-quarters of a million respondents.

From the 1930s to early 2000s, the British affiliate and later subsidiary of the Gallup Organization conducted around three thousand surveys of public opinion in Great Britain. While the records of...

🚨Excited to share our new paper published in PNAS (joint with @yamilrvelez.bsky.social and Don Green)! AI can enhance political knowledge and provide balanced information about politics with proper guardrails and vetted sources (e.g., party platforms).

I can now say that the incentives to do so are very high.

Yes and - inspired by the @hotpoliticslab.bsky.social - using some physiological measurement tools during experiments! 👀

Thanks Chris! I suspect moderately more.

I’m likely to be between the three: the land of the cinnamon bun, the land where the after-work pint is a near-obligatory social ritual, and the land where dinner before 2200 is a crime.

😎 you win some, you lose some!

Thanks so much Flo! Excited at the potential prospect of being around fun people (and fika!) 😘

Danke sehr 🤓

Thank you Will (ps: you were missed last night!)

Thank you! ☺️
