I hope people enjoy my little thoughts on politics which I make after working all day and coming home to get righteously blazed, so if nothing I say makes sense, at least you know why.
I liked it being 4 eps, kept the story tight. I was really waiting for the gorey shit in ep 4, that’s mainly what I know of this story. They downplayed it, but showing the real thing would’ve been pretty upsetting at that point, because I really liked Betty Gilpin and Michael Shannon.
But it's worth watching, even if it left me wanting more of some parts and less of others. A whole lot of enjoyable performances - pretty much all the main characters are doing fine work.

Basically, the president is my mom these days. Old, limited energy, a chip on her shoulder because of perceived disrespect, she’s very nice and a great mom but man, age donkey-punched her the last 2 years.

The fundamental thing to understand about this administration is the president is a grumpy retiree. He has no interest in working anymore. Which leads to him being pissed that he is getting asked a question, pissed he has to show up and work, the scheming viziers running the show, etc..

I hope that this doesn't just become about "Nuzzi is bad" but fosters a wider recognition that our culture of political journalism that didn't just tolerate her, but promoted and celebrated her even after the allegations were known, is rotten to the core and has been for a long time.
this was bad before, but these are the most troubling and serious allegations you can make about a journalist. if they’re true, i genuinely can’t think of a worse scandal in the history of political journalism. devastating to our industry, to public trust as a whole, and to everyone in its orbit

The number of journalists who went out of their way to defend Nuzzi speaks very ill of the profession. It feels weird to be saying "it's not about sex, it's about ethics in political journalism" because it sounds like Gamergate, but, yeah, it really is about ethics in political journalism!

the takeaway is that the entire media was so delighted at a lie by a serial fabulist who fucked her way through all of her sources and editors to get where she was that they ignored anything even vaguely revealing a public responsibility
