Like CLU, the sirens, & the isos fit into that computer framework, but Castor? Jarvis? Beck, Mara, & Zed? Like there’s some great character development that goes on in that era & it sure is pretty, but it felt like worldbuilding in the wrong direction, away from the computer functions #TronThoughts

Much as I love Legacy, it strayed away from the basic premise of The Grid in many ways. Characters were all supposed to be actual computer programs w functions & utilities written into them. But in Legacy & Uprising, they just kindof—hang out? Go to clubs? Fight fascists on weekends? #TronThoughts 🧵

Yes! More sf needs to be imagining more utopian utility of technology. Like, we’ve done dystopias to death to the point where we’re just living in the lamest one imaginable because the entire broligarchy cherry picked whatever previously fictional tech could exploit as many people as possible.

💯 I found myself thinking about it all the next day. Some surprisingly mature themes around grief and purpose? How technology could actually be used for good if we had maybe gone down a different path? Plus Dillinger & Athena were absolutely phenomenal villains. The experience was just such a treat.
