Indigenous M/M romances are fucking RARE. So when do I see one? I buy it! Immediately! My friend @robincovington wrote this fantastic book (it's 2 stories in one book).

100% WORTH IT! It's called Unforgettable, and you should buy it: app.thestorygraph.com/books/d0bc84...

Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day! If you want to get into the Halloween spirit and want to support Indigenous people, may I suggest you pick up Never Whistle At Night, edited by Shawn Hawk with an introduction by Stephen Graham Jones.

Same! I get feedback before I publish, but once it is out in the world, that is none of my business 😂

I do appreciate readers who take the time and effort to leave a review, though. You are a superstar 💜

My toxic trait is that I don't read reviews. The way you feel about my book is none of my business. 🤷🏾

There are some people who think I am exaggerating, but I am not. I'm seeing a lot of this shit especially in FB groups and group chats.

Yep. I've seen this also.
Many of my buddies have 'retired.'
It is tough out there and with the US gone full on Fascist and the UK on its way there, 2 of the largest English language markets,, I suspect it will get worse.

I would love if an Indigenous author would write about an Indigenous version of a vampire slayer or a professional monster hunter. I would happily read 500 pages of that.

And yes, I am still thinking about Sinners. Can't you tell?

In my opinion, if I want constructive criticism? I'll get a beta reader or an editor.

I am glad it's not just me. If I need validation? I have a folder on my phone full of compliments from my readers. Every DM, reply, and email.

I was watching a work office skit, and one of the people was shitting on social media managers. "All you do is do TikTok dances all day." And I think I blacked out in rage because as someone who has to manage MY OWN SOCIAL MEDIA? This type of work is more exhausting than the actual writing.

One of the reasons that really sealed it for me to get serious about self publishing was seeing how a lot of my friends in tradpub are STRUGGLING. Every year it's a little worse. I've done to the conclusion there's not a sustainable way forward for me in tradpub.

You should be concerned about the rate of authors leaving publishing. Especially from marginalized communities. This year I have seen so many authors just pack it up and go. And it's only getting worse.

The true test of a white person's allyship is how they talk about the Black people they don't like.

This post was to give authors a platform to be honest about the worsening work conditions in publishing, but it's also a call to action for the book community. We've got to do better than this.
ingloriousgigi.bsky.social
There have been replies to the post that have some authors saying, "I don't care how bad it gets; I am never leaving." And I love that for you; however, you are missing the point of this post.

It’s getting to be impossible—publishers generally do not care about anyone who isn’t in their top 2% of earners. And increasingly that means those with money to build platforms (celebrities, the rich, the already famous). I write books, I also review them. And some of the things pushed out there…

I am forever grateful to my dayjob. It's the only reason I can keep writing, and keep dreaming of being published again someday

Hollywood writers too. The number of people I know who have left Los Angeles since 2020 makes me really sad.

There's a reason I only publish once every six years, and it's that I have to spend the intervening time making enough money to live
