I've written a few books, and I like to rant about gender and hyperlocal Minneapolis politics. Thorn in the side of the DFL: abetterdfl.org. Cat Dad. They/them.

i taught freshman comp at baylor

this would get a D from me. She tried but she cites nothing, suddenly knows hebrew halfway through without any citations (eg: plagiarism) and doesn't quote or cite the article she's referencing throughout. For a discussion post, fine. For an essay? No.

this is why it is ALWAYS shut the fuck up friday
Everytime I watch true crime on YouTube with "body language experts" saying how guilty this person is, I realise I'd be totally fucked if I ever got brought in for police questioning.

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The federal government has never lived up to its commitment to shoulder 40 percent of the cost. Now, advocates want the feds to pony up, @juliametraux.bsky.social writes.

right???? like the conspiracy they allege is contradictory and based on "well, this is what a normal (ie, neurotypical) person would do!" which is ...you're not dealing with a normal person!

man, the Carman Family Deaths documentary on Netflix is a prime example of why you should never, EVER speak to the police, especially if you are autistic.

I got to see him speak a decade ago at Oxford. At 78, he was witty and funny and very quick. What a loss for the playwriting world.

it's the first real snow of the year, which means Minnesotans have completely forgotten how to drive and either are wayyyyy too cautious for the conditions, or completely cavalier and all of it makes for wildly dangerous driving! Whee!

EXACTLY. It's very respectful about faith while also showing how much anger and hatred have to be continually stoked in order to keep people motivated.
The Benoit Blanc trilogy might end up as one of the best artistic statements on the diseased conservatism of our era, and l think Wake Up Dead Man is my favorite of the trilogy, largely because it’s Rian Johnson trying to understand Christianity and its adherents more than having a definitive take.

I'm really grateful for all the people who have had patience and grace with me as I stumble around and figure out who I am. And I'm grateful for the ability to keep learning and growing and coming into my own, even as I'm staring down 40 years old.

When I was in my twenties, I couldn't imagine 40.
