it's funny how the government is in favour of making the country so inhospitable and unpleasant that skilled workers up and leave but if you ask them to raise taxes on wealth they start fearmongering about about how billionaires who do fuck all for this country might leave.
I'm not sure how much it is appreciated that there will be significant emigration coming. Those here on graduate visas coming to an end, the toughening up of skilled worker rules re. salaries/sponsorable roles and the 'earned settlement' changes to come. Lots of people are going to leave.

The thing is we've known that housing the homeless is cheaper than neglect, we've known that Ubi is effective at eliminating poverty, we've known that heavily subsidized housing and education leads people into the middle class, we've known all of these things in some cases for 70 years.
“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

I, for one, am shocked that the ‘strivers vs shirkers’ rhetoric from the golden days of austerity has now metastasised into a full-blown politics of enmity setting the virtuous British petty-bourgeois class on an inexorable path to open conflict with the unwashed pleb scum. Completely unforeseeable.
