"The EHRC’s exclusionary interim guidance has had a devastating impact on trans people’s lives"

“Now the guidance has been withdrawn, so should the exclusionary policies that organisations rashly implemented in its aftermath. If not, they could find themselves in hot water.”
EHRC withdraws interim guidance encouraging trans exclusion
After six months of confusion and delay, the EHRC has taken down interim guidance rushed out in April. But the damage has already been done.

Greta Thunberg: “Israeli soldiers hit, kicked, starved, and tortured me”

• They placed a flag next to me, and anytime the flag touched me, they kicked me
• Whenever I raised my head to look at Ben-Gvir, I was kicked
• She was filmed while stripped naked

Given there is no schedule for when the code becomes statutory, and the whole reason for the “interim guidance” was supposed to be to stop people being in limbo, what was the justification for removing it?

The thing is this is probably something he can be super strong on, and clear, and it’s just an own goal for Kemi
dpdormouse.bsky.social
You can see it in her eyes as well, she’s trodden in it
dpdormouse.bsky.social
Kemi is literally attacking evidence provided by her government right? Like this is dated material it’s not like she can pin it elsewhere

Hilary benn has literally just said at the dispatch box that the Gov is committed to the ECHR and that leaving it would undermine the GFA so which is it?
dpdormouse.bsky.social
Starmer has repeatedly said leaving is out of the question under Labour for various reason including the GFA and he is seriously briefing that the case is undermined by trans rights lmao

Breakdown of peace better than trans rights according to UK gov, apparently
dpdormouse.bsky.social
Is it also not a juicy news story that a human rights lawyer PM is being repeatedly called out for breaches of human rights by other human rights experts??? Surely there should be *some* media interest???
dpdormouse.bsky.social
And I assume no journalist will actually query him on this as per usual

Read my two letters to the #UK:
1. Protests: I call for a review of the legal framework and the reconsideration of provisions in the Crime & Policing Bill that could restrict freedom of assembly.
2. Trans people: I warn against exclusion&zero-sum approaches

The job of the ECHR is to comment on concerns about domestic policies of member states, she just doesn’t like trans people

Woah! So Labour's position really is, 'telling us off for breaching human rights undermines the case for human rights'? Proper Trumpian stuff from Labour's answer to Suella Braverman.

The Council of Europe has warned that the UK gov’s treatment of trans people may breach human rights law.

This must be a wake up call.

We’ve seen an increase in hostility towards trans in recent years.

Everyone deserves dignity, safety, & respect - that includes trans people.

🏮 He thinks the direction of travel in the UK will breach its human rights obligations in multiple respects - pushing trans people into an 'intermediate zone' and jeopardising their right to be treated with dignity and to be able to participate in all areas of everyday life...

Quite a bodying, here, for the UK, from the Commissioner for Human Rights, Council of Europe.

🏮 He points out the Supreme Court ignored human rights (which breaches its legal obligations)
🏮 He says, in effect agreeing with Lucy Powell, Parliament should be involved...
