Even dumb people are naturally inclined to seek out patterns. Is it really so awful if some of us dumb people find comfort & enjoyment in specific patterns?

Also, we can trash artists for using tropes to market their work, but marketing models are currently broken, so let’s ease up on them too.
Hell yeah (but also, come on! Our twenties and thirties are hard enough!)
I had an acting teacher who told me I kept getting cast as the ingenue when I was actually a character actor, and that helped unravel years of my Mormon upbringing.

Exactly. Because behind almost every Gen Xer is a dad who’s obsessed with WW II.

The thing that makes Star Trek utopian isn’t the end of scarcity or the harmony between all peoples it’s also that the guy on the ship who gets laid the most plays the trombone at work and periodically does community theater

Same problem in publishing and film.

Everyone gets paid long before the writer, and then it's pennies on the dollar, if we're lucky.

People can't create like this.

We shouldn't have to create like this.

There's no product without us, yet we get told it's more important to pay everyone else.

The main achievement of the tech industry has been increasing the flow of money from people who make or do things to people who already have more money than they could spend in a hundred lifetimes

There is a long-standing helium shortage. Helium is needed in hospitals (for MRI machines, respiratory therapy, some medical procedures) and should therefore not be wasted blowing up balloons.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

I always wondered why France had so many heists but if you can still just put a ladder up to a window on the Louvre in the year 2025 and get away with a big bag full of priceless jewels I guess that solves the mystery
That is the exact right book to bring.

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

The Spanish translator for my second book reached out to me multiple times over meaning and nuance so her version would be faithful to mine. Why are we willingly giving up the human connections in our art?
Fuck Barbara forever and ever.
100%.

Remind me: have you read Annie Bot? It's a brilliant novel and should be a must read for every woman who intends to date a man in these times. The allegory is on point.
Hey, so I wonder what will happen when swaths of people experience a sexual partner who never says no to them and is compliant with whatever act they want to do. Always.

I wonder if this will have major consequences when it comes to human intimacy and interaction. Particularly for women.
