Young ladyperson sitting at the cafe under the shady pergola, in a green slip dress and combat boots, headphones on, small white dog snoozing on the bench beside her, crocheting something complicated and delicate in white yarn.
I feel calm just knowing she is there, having a lovely peaceful time.

The great defining bond of having experienced girlhood is turning 11 and being actively punished by the entire adult world because a bunch of weird men want to fuck you
Theres actually an important convo to be had re: the difference between 5 & 15yo victims of predation, how society treats them, etc. but the ppl most eager to have that talk tend to be interested in the concept of “acceptability” & excusing predation rather than preventing it or helping anyone

Solar’s price drop is astonishing: panels are now 98% cheaper than when I first analyzed them in 2004.

Today, building a fence with solar can be cheaper than using wood.

I do really think these folks are underestimating how bad the AI backlash can get if the industry needs a bailout

people are still furious about the 2008 bailout and that was almost two decades ago
Tech guys six months ago: haha yes we’re cutting all this WASTEFUL spending by eliminating medical research and USAID

Tech guys now: yes I think taxpayers will be excited to bailout my non consensual pornography machine

The old joke that what Crick and Watson really discovered was Rosalind Franklin’s notebook will hopefully outlast his lifetime as well.
Maybe he should have been in marketing, as that ability to understand the ‘market’ was his true strength.
SUPERB obituary tho, one can feel the refined enmity.
pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Seven *more* families?
And this is only the families who have the means to sue, and (critically) the families who FOUND OUT.

How many more vulnerable people has ChatGPT convinced? Will we ever know?

Fuck all this.

It's almost like... like maybe the fascism *never* actually arose from working class "economic anxiety"... like maybe the working class *weren't* actually the ones radicalised by bourgeois resentment of "cancel culture" and "wokeness"... like maybe the working class have... more pragmatic priorities
Remarkable: In Virginia and New Jersey, Spanberger and Sherrill erased the GOP edge among working class. Per exit polls, each got 50% of noncollege voters, big gains over previous contests.

Shocker: Anti-Trump politics appeals to working class, too!
