There’s a superstitious aspect to the idea of thinking in comparative terms somehow negates the aspirational.

Hey I wonder if things are significantly worse if people feel free enough to display a swastika in public. Also I’m gonna pretend I can’t tell the difference between someone pointing out this obvious thing and saying “the bush administration was good”
internettheo.bsky.social
Yeah that’s a distinction that actually leads to an immeasurably significant difference in material consequences lol. You weren’t seeing “US college student kidnapped off street by masked unidentified guys in van for writing op-ed criticizing Israel”. How do people not get that?

I mention this a lot because it sounds unbelievable now but I distinctly remember hearing Ashcroft do Islamophobia PSA on the radio.

Let me strongly emphasize that you should not give someone money for committing a gross breach of professional ethics. You also shouldn't hire them for a prestigious new job but our industry is garbage, alas!

“many prominent young republicans are actual Nazis” is a self-censoring fact at this point

normie swing voters will literally refuse to believe it and the media refuses to report it because it would call everything else they’ve done into question
beijingpalmer.bsky.social
while 'young republicans are literal nazis' is well known to folks here, the extent of it is surprisingly not that commonly known even in media and analyst circles, let alone normal people.

performance of obedience to the regime is more valuable to Jeff Bezos’ business interests than a profitable newspaper is and he’s laughing his ass off that people haven’t figured that out yet

I’ve probably regressed in ways tbh lol

There were a lot of candidates running too.

Again he was literally the only 2020 candidate who said (when they were all asked about it in a debate) that he wouldn’t try and get the Iran Deal back.

Hard to tell if people pretend to be dumb about what was clearly obvious just for anti Dem clout or if they have genuinely made themselves dumber in terms of their own media literacy over time by indulging that tendency.

Quite easily. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

From Opinion
Zohran Mamdani's political rise runs parallel to an increase in Islamophobia. How can Americans reconcile those two facts?

for whatever else you think about Pelosi, she literally meant directly the opposite of this when she said that
veryimportant.lawyer
everyone needs to internalize that this is just how all republicans are and when nancy pelosi said "the country needs a strong republican party" she meant that more people like this should be powerful. they are all like this! they all think just like this and like trump and they love it and it's fun

It’s really cool that people are still pretending she meant she was going to appoint a groyper to be Secretary of State and not like Chuck Hagel to run the VA or something

not wanting Mills to win the primary because she's too old is a perfectly valid reason to want her not to win, the fact you're going straight to smearing her character suggests you don't think the age argument will work

It's really simple

Voters want an opposition party that will fight for them, and democracy, like there's no tomorrow

Dem elites want a members-only social club where polite, dues-paying members who they like to see at cocktail parties get rewarded with plum roles www.politico.com/news/2025/10...
Chuck Schumer gets his preferred candidate, Janet Mills, in crowded Maine Senate race
Schumer had been aggressively recruiting Mills to challenge Republican Susan Collins.

I think this is what frustrates me the most about mask discourse: There's an acceptable middle ground of "wear one when you're sick" that both sides have decided is unacceptable despite being a reasonable position. I did it going to Walgreens yesterday, it's really not a big deal.
ceej.online
we were absolutely militant about masking. I love masks as a tool to prevent spreading illness and will happily put one on when I’m under the weather and need to be in public. the idea that we should all mask forever or until covid is “solved” (it’s endemic) is unserious. the vaccines are a miracle

Every state with a Democratic trifecta has strengthened protections for trans people. Even centrist Dems who might be less than 100% individually don’t campaign on anti-trans policies or try to pass them once elected. Elect more Democrats & you’ll get better protections, simple as.

So that just seems like a clear cut case of “DSA politician became an asset to the party” imo. Like it’s a weaker party without her in it clearly.
internettheo.bsky.social
Agreed. It’s vital and necessary.

I’ve rolled my eyes at things AOC says and some of the extreme online praise when she started but she pragmatically adapted and it really seems like she genuinely really connects with “2016 still with her” people and in direct moral terms and best represents their feelings about what’s happening.
