I interviewed several members of the VF community about why VF5: R.E.V.O. matters for @pcgamer.com. VF is so important, and it's so good to see that community get their moment and help them tell that story.

Big thanks to @wes.readonlymemo.com for the opportunity.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. isn't just a PC port of a 19-year-old game: it's the reason a diehard fighting game community can 'finally reach out and play with each other across the world'
Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O's arrival on PC marks the start a new era for the series that pioneered 3D fighting games.

It's not about if Horses is good or if you like it, it's about the world we're in where a few companies have control over who gets to make money and which artists get to continue working.

Stores can stock whatever they want, but if you don't understand the broader picture you shouldn't speak.

Remember that part in Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes where a girl has a bomb shoved either up her anus or vagina and the reward for finding all the secret tapes is another tape where you can listen to her being sexually assaulted before she is forced to have sex with an underage boy?
I think any conversation about whether or not Horses’ ban is justified is immediately shot down by the fact that Silent Hill 2 has existed for over 20 years as a celebrated mainstream classic.

it rules that every day now is just watching everything in your life get more expensive and worse and then also constantly being told that nothing is more expensive or worse
Jeff Bezos and the Washington Post are at it again.

If even around 10% of the people who followed us kicked in just $1 a month, Skybox wouldn't really have to worry about money anymore. If you'd like us to survive, we need your help.
If you're feeling generous today, consider supporting independent writing about games and movies. $5 gets you access to our Discord and our weekly Into the Skybox podcast, while $10 gets you all of that plus Skydive, our monthly deep dive podcast. But even $1 helps.

I am not engaging in discourse today, but I *will* be at TGAs, so, PR friends, if you have anything you'd like me to be aware of or think I should see, I'd love to hear from you

My personal theory as to why Clair Obscur hit so big is that, in part, the JRPG space has grown increasingly backwards-looking, which shuts out anyone who isn't nostalgic for 16/32-bit games. People like these types of games! But you have to meet 'em where they are.

I’ve only played up to the start of day five, but y’all. HORSES. What a wonderfully twisted, Argento-soaked sicko arthouse horror. Kudos @santaragione.com.

I’m playing it on Steam Deck via Heroic Launcher, and it runs beautifully on high settings. Support weird indies.

A crucial and clarifying call to action from @edgarallanbro.bsky.social about Microsoft’s barbaric participation in the Palestinian genocide. A candid reflection too on what it means to write about games with dignity.

It’s an Incredible Day to Stop Giving Microsoft Your Money

Signed the petition at nogamesforgenocide.com

Hoping more people question what it means to cover and accept gifts from Xbox right now instead of choosing to comfortably slip into business as usual.
No Games For Genocide
The games industry is complicit in genocide. It’s time to divest.

No offense but I think we underestimate how many of our current problems, both cultural and political, are downstream of the decline in reading, the decline in learning and the loss of interest in the humanities.

Update on this: the opportunity is, barring anything happening, locked in now, so this is even more essential to making sure that I can make it to it comfortably. We're still at 42% or so, just shy of $1700 dollars total. Keep the good word going, please, even if you can't donate.
I've got an opportunity lined up that should keep me solvent once it starts, but it won't be until about mid-late January, and I'm essentially at the last of my savings now. The $4000 I'm asking for here (ko-fi.com/sjhdoesgames) should be enough to keep me covered until that time. (2/3)

thinking out loud maybe the weight gamers put on aggregated review scores when they truly do not matter serves as a way of justifying this continued anti-establishment resentment towards games journalists as if they're an elitist class lording taste over us all when that has zero material basis

@skyboxcritics.com has not and will not cover Microsoft products until the BDS call is lifted. Easy decision to make, and the right one. It's so fucking easy to have standards.
SIGN OUR BOYCOTT XBOX PLEDGE: We are asking gamers, game workers, streamers & journalists to join us in boycotting & divesting from Xbox, to force Microsoft to end its complicity in the genocide of Palestinians.

We’ve provided concrete actions everyone can take. Sign here: nogamesforgenocide.com

If you're trying to ditch NYT Games, which you should be since their games singlehandedly prop up the entire dogshit rag financially, you should switch to Puzzmo. An annual sub is 50% off today for a crazy $19 and as a bonus doesn't enable the genocides of Palestinians and trans people
Puzzmo — The (new) place for thoughtful puzzles.
Re-imagined mainstays like the daily Crossword Puzzle, modern classics like Really Bad Chess and SpellTower, and even a few brand new puzzles.
