Cranky lioness. You know me from Twitter. Cats, game design, Judaism, and very long threads. (She/her)
Me: here’s the story of the RMS Carpathia, the amazing ship and crew that pulled heroic measures to save the survivors of the Titanic. Why isn’t there a movie about it?

Someone on social media, inevitably:
Because no one can pronounce it? Because it sounds like something out of antique history, and like, who cares?

So, I get that the real-life USS Enterprise was a bigass warship who was great for morale and all but I wanna know why we aren’t naming everything in sight after the RMS Carpathia. And why isn’t there a gd movie??? (Thread about a heroic ship.)

It's wonderful to see that Vox once again has the worst of all instincts, which in this case refusing to take "no" for an answer and baffled as to why their attitude is infuriating.

This is one of those things like "You used to not be able to see two feet in front of your face on a sunny day in London" that no one who didn't experience it will ever be able to fully comprehend. Diners used to have smoking and non-smoking patrons seated directly next to each other.
It’s crazy that people used to be able to just smoke cigarettes wherever they wanted

Professor's pro-tip for anyone with college-age kids: Tell your kids go to class. It's really that simple. If you show up, you'll do okay. You don't have to be smart, you just have to be there. Maybe stay off your phones for 50 minutes. Just listen. You'll absorb something. I have data to prove it.

The thing I’ve noticed about men attempting to be allies is they still often don’t take other men’s bad behavior seriously enough. The boyfriend in this video will escalate to hitting her, not just hitting things, and potentially to killing her.

Another point: the walls made of stitched willow branches in the photo are a superb building material. They can be used to protect cities from flooding.

Willow species are being used to prevent the decimation of the Ohio River Basin. By incorporating willow, their aim is to minimize erosion while keeping its seven major tributaries as free of pollutants as possible.

You know, if a civilian said something like this, pretty sure they’d jump to the top of the suspect list.

Bonkers that the press is treating this as not a big deal.

Imagine living in the Hallmark Romance Universe.

You've got a fulfilling job and life and friends in a vibrant bustling place, and then some monstrous entity yoinks you right out of your life to the middle of bumfuck nowhere thousands of miles away.

And then, starts *fucking with your mind*
Delta Green scenario where they discover some entity has been turning a rural town into a Hallmark Christmas romance.

Somehow it's luring businesswomen from several states away and influencing them into falling in love with lumberjacks, for its own mysterious purposes

Like

“nope, the first time they ever researched [incredibly basic thing] was this year”

“nope, they’re still teaching in med schools that women don’t feel pain when you take a hole punch to our internal organs”

Also, they want us to know our place. Remember when Harris said she didn't aspire to be humble? That infuriates white people.

I’m going to keep saying it: both the “male loneliness epidemic” and the techbro obsession with AI are, at their core, about a complete lack of distress tolerance for the messy business of relating to other people and a terror of vulnerability/interdependence.
we talk a lot about the weirdo techbro obsession with immortality these AI necromancy projects embody, but I'm arguably even MORE fascinated by the terror of allowing yourself to experience deep, complex emotions they so obviously reveal

you cannot prevent yourself from feeling grief with an app??
