I can see a playground from my house but there's such busy roads between my house and the playground that I wouldn't want my kid (who I trust) to walk there by themselves until their like 10
Think much of the over-parenting we despise stems from the early on fear of the driver. If parents weren't terrified of our streets kids would have so much more freedom and independence which might get them comfortable with their children's ability to navigate the world without them.

Donald Trump and George W Bush are very different in many ways but they have this in common: they were/are very appealing to large numbers of people and I would very much like to know what the fuck is wrong with every last one of them

Can you imagine if the Times and Post and CNN reacted to every time DHS explicitly endorsed neo-Nazism with the same kind of screaming headlines that they did every time Biden stumbled over a world leader’s name?

Essay: During my first visit to the Dog Chapel, I imagined coming back to leave a memorial for a dog I’d have one day, writes E.B. Bartels. On the second trip, I pictured myself doing it for Seymour, but I figured that was at least a decade away. Not even four years later, there I was, heartbroken.

We got to make using AI to figure out personal gifts a social crime. Most gifts suck to begin with but now you’ve literally taken the thought out of it’s the thought that counts

The Nuzzi thing is a good reminder that outside the deep structural issues of energy/subsistence, most of what's happening right now is an old-fashioned crisis of elite legitimacy, which sounds comforting until you realize how some of those have turned out in the past

Jesus, this and the ioniq 6 really can murder the Model 3. I don't know why you'd get a Tesla sedan when the options are so much better for the same price or cheaper
I don't see how Tesla's Model 3 can survive if Benz can offer an alternative EV this cheap, with this kind of performance, on top of the 15% tariff that it's charged in the US.
Imagine what this model does to Tesla in Europe, where Benz pays no tariffs.
