As a kid, when I didn’t see a friend for a summer, it usually meant the friendship was over as we’d be complete strangers to each other should we interact again. As an adult, I can go 5 years without talking to someone then have lunch & it seems like no time has passed. Old brains are weird.

By the 3rd season of The Muppet Show, we’ve got a fully formed Gonzo performing what, for me, is almost a mission statement of a song for the entire Muppet Show. Dave Goelz just sparkles in his performance with every little nuance he throws in to the vocals & puppeteering.

A knock-out performance that should not be lost to time is the legendary Levi Stubbs performing “Mean Green Mother From Outer Space” from Little Shop Of Horrors with a giant Audrey II looking behind him (shout-out to the puppeteers) at the 1987 Academy Awards ceremony…

I will never not be delighted by the aural beauty & playful cleverness of this Harry Nilsson performance from 1971, singing alongside himself. It’s a shame we never got Harry as a guest on The Muppet Show, as he would have fit in just as wonderfully as Paul Williams.

Harry Nilsson performing “Think About Your Troubles” - One of my favorite songs by one of my favorite artists, and a beautiful contextualization of the significant insignificance of our existence (all set to a lovely tune)…

This They Might Be Giants TONIGHT SHOW performance of "Birdhouse In Your Soul" from 1990 remains firmly lodged in my noggin thanks to the Tonight Show Band's full commitment and Doc Severinsen's incredible trumpeting... It took an already great song and made it transcendent.

This was a holiday project that was entirely the notion of the brill @mollylewis.wtf who asked me if we could journey down this cursed track together AND WE DID and it was fun to do, it’s fun for you to listen to, and means I NEVER have to watch it again…
This is as good a reminder as any that @kenplume.bsky.social and I chewed this movie up in 4 minute bites so you don't have to…

#VentureBros fans! I recorded a 2.5hr-long conversation w/ Doc Hammer, in which we talked about the creation of every single one of the Venture Bros. holiday songs - from the very first to the very latest*, in-depth - as well as just having a fun, rollicking chat. Available at bit.ly/hammerholiday
