I don't need to reiterate how many people's lives are going to be ruined so FIFA can get rich off these games, but it does make me look ahead to 2031 and whether the US (and co-hosts) are going to allow FIFA to ruin the women's World Cup in the same way they have done to the men's
FIFA has hiked World Cup ticket prices yet again.

It's now...
💵 $700 for some standard group stage tickets
💵 $140 *at minimum* — no more Category 4
💵 $8,680 for a Category 1 ticket to the final

@theathleticfc.bsky.social has published a full list of prices here:
World Cup ticket prices rise again after draw; What each match costs to attend
For the first time, tickets are available to specific World Cup games, and the prices are largely on a significant rise

No captions is a big deal for a lot of us.
Movie theaters are great but the big movie theater chains are punitive and horrible and make you feel cheated at every turn. The only concession they've made to the consumer is assigned seating and that took a huge portion of their business going to Alamo Drafthouse and its competitors.
The pandemic.
The strike.
The sale of Fox.

“.. Box office experts say 15 to 20 percent of regular moviegoers have simply never returned ..”

Let's be very clear that one of the major effects of the CDC no longer recommending various vaccinations is that it becomes much harder for folks who still want to be—or want their children to be—vaccinated to get their insurance providers to cover those vaccinations.

$20 billion could end homelessness in the US

$40 billion could end hunger globally

Both would still only cost 3/4 of what Meta blew on Mark Zuckerberg’s obviously bad ideas because nobody would tell him they were stupid because he’s worth over $200 billion because he doesn’t pay his share of taxes
Mark Zuckerberg’s gamble on the "Metaverse" has lost his company more than $77 billion.

In Chicago, a Nativity scene features a zip-tied baby Jesus and Roman centurions in "ICE" vests.

Near Boston, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus are absent from a Nativity scene, replaced with a sign reading "ICE was here."

ICE Nativity scenes: Churches reimagine Christmas story amid deportations
(RNS) — 'We know that Jesus was born into a Roman imperial occupation, and pretty much immediately becomes a refugee in Egypt, has to flee and faces political violence,' the Rev. Michael Woolf said.

Can someone tell these guys (these politicians and the pundits who boost them) that it is not November 2024 anymore? Abigail Spanberger, Mikie Sherrill, Zohran Mandani, and Aftyn Behn all likely won some Trump voters/2024 skippers. Update the talking points! 2028 is not only for white guys.
Josh Shapiro believes he is uniquely suited to win over Trump voters—but he’ll need to overcome distrust among some in his own party first, Tim Alberta reports: theatln.tc/mR9AHSG4

and we're not at war with Venezuela! how can it be a war crime if we're not at war? call it what it is - murder, crime against humanity, etc.
One of the reasons I think it’s also essential to not call the boat strikes “war crimes” but “crimes against humanity,” is that it emphasizes that Trump and Hegseth are acting extra-constitutionally and are not entitled to any shield from the courts. This systematic murder of civilians is illegal.

WHY DO THESE "YOU'RE A CLASS TRAITOR" PEOPLE KEEP PRETENDING LIBRARIES DON'T EXIST?

ARE THEY CLASS TRAITORS WHO DON'T BELIEVE IN LIBRARIES?
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

When Is It Time to Flee?
Trans people and their families are facing hard questions and choices as threats to their safety and rights proliferate.
