We could probably fix a lot of societal problems if cellphones went back to being $12,500
Motorola's early cell phone, the DynaTAC, was $3,995 at launch in 1984. That's $12,500 today.

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

If you want to know how the website Cameo is doing, you can pay $500 USD for a custom video from an AI Charlie Kirk. Anyway, sign up for the BP Patreon if you want to chart the rise and fall of Cameo through our 28 (!) bonus episodes on the topic.
Word Up! 28: The $750 Club w/ @jessefarrar.com. JF is here to watch some horrible Cameos from a brutal Austin Powers impersonator, an AI Charlie Kirk, and two old guys who charge way too much for Cameos: Ric Flair and Chevy Chase.

On the one hand this is heinous, on the other hand under this logic an enterprising Democratic president can declare tech billionaires to be terrorists who are poisoning the American people with their products

it's so wild that Indiana Republicans are kinda the first among their own to be calling bullshit. Indiana Republicans believe that life begins in the balls, they're way out there. Generally speaking you can't reason with them. But Indiana is also sorta southern, doesn't wanna be told to get in line
Indiana Senate Republican Greg Walker “said he would have reported the alleged violation to federal authorities “if I thought that there was anyone of integrity in Washington that would follow through on my accusation ..”
