Blindingly bright headlights are causing incalculable numbers of accidents and deaths every night.
We need safe limits on brightness/intensity.

A user of the anti-blinding-headlight advocacy group at reddit.com/r/fuckyourheadlights tested headlight brightness on multiple vehicles in order to figure out what's going on with regulations and adherence to them.

Here's a 4-part infographic with key findings:

If the modern LED street lights were even half as bright as modern LED car headlights we wouldn't need headlights on cars at all because it'd be like feckin daylight all night.

It's really hard to capture at night, but all these headlights cause your eyes to clamp down and you can't see the trail or street in front of you. By the school, it's basically impossible to see kids walking because of the intense brightness of lights. Better infra can help, but it's an arms race.

Both are equal problems. A sedan with insane headlights still blinds oncoming traffic. A giant truck is a hazard for reasons that exist during the daytime when the headlights are off.

Both things could be corrected with regulation if the government gave a shit about anything but corporate profit.
Yes, HID headlights are very bright but the bigger problem is the proliferation of gargantuan vehicles with 5’+ hood heights so that if you’re driving a normal sized car their headlights are at your eye level rather than seat level like they’re supposed to be.

i think if you want to have those disgusting LED headlights on your car, you should have to do a test where they blast you point blank with your own headlights and then you have 15 seconds to successfully complete some sort of vision-based task, and if you can't do it they push your car off a cliff

Great news about blinding LED headlights! Progress! But one thing that sucks about this research is the fact hundreds of thousands of "anecdotal stories" and complaints from all over the world were dismissed for years.
