👋 If you’re a new follower, this account is about showing how far WFB has to go on being a safe place to raise kids, grow old in, and everything in between. All the tropes are deserved and this account has no shame. We have a history of racial covenants, and recognize zoning is a choice. Welcome!
Nothing brings the joy like the first warm sunny day in months and seeing families on bikes everywhere. Even better - brand new cargo bikes. Even with our non-existent bike infra, people are desperate to not drive everywhere.

Never forget that the whole idea of jaywalking was auto industry propaganda and lobbying to make “being a person” illegal.

Buy an e- bike.
At this point i think it is fair to assume that if you pull the thread on the rash of anti-bike/ebike laws and news/opinion, you will 100% find car companies and/oil companies at the other end.

I am offering no evidence, but after all we have seen, the burden of proof really should lie with them.
I think the media understands the difference between e-bikes and illegal e-motos. They are intentionally conflating the difference between legal e-bikes and illegal e-motos to stoke fear and get clicks.

It's could destroy the e-bike revolution if we don't find a way to stop it.

Finally, installing my gorgeous new bike was done. Time to take it and Seppy out for a ride while it was still sunny instead of snowy.

I AM OBSESSED. 😍

Second pedestrian hit in under two weeks. This might technically be Milwaukee but the intersection nearby is WFB and we’re going to rebuild it soon. Early designs are fucking terrible and will make these MORE common.

Does anybody know of a bike shop in Minneapolis that rents kids’ bikes? We’re planning to stay in the university area and would like to take Amtrak there + get around by transit and bike. But if we can’t find rentals, we might drive so we can bring our own bikes. (Alas, no bikes on the Borealis.)

Now that the streets are in better shape and the melt has revealed #freshKermit I’m certainly preferring the snow-protected #bikenyc lanes over the parking protected!

For one: it keeps the idiots & cranks from parking in them! 😀

Only reason Silver Spring isn’t like this is because leaders don’t want it to be like this.

The resistance by the Village to just put a fucking rock in these daylighting zones is mind-boggling. Has to be a hundred drivers a week using this single, illegal spot. And most are probably just parking here because they have no idea they are putting peoples’ lives at risk doing this.

A billionaire scribbled a design on a piece of paper to "disrupt the transportation industry".

Mission accomplished. He disrupted the flow of the city and the schedules of hundreds of commuters.

My Hot Take:

All car services such as washes and mechanics should be restricted from setting up shops inside of a city. They should be on the outskirts.
Every car wash is blocking bike lanes today.

When will leaders get it through their dense skulls that mixing kids with cars in any way at all is a recipe for catastrophe? You don't even have to accept that some drivers are homicidal to have pretty good incentive to make streets, and any place cars are near people, safer.

Watched a man load his toddler into an SUV this morning at the pediatrician and as he was driving out of the parking lot, he had one hand on the wheel and the other scrolling his phone.

This has to stop by any means necessary.

WFB: No one bikes in the winter, why should we bother shoveling bike racks, or literally any space a bicyclist might need?

Protected bike lanes reduce the frequency of car crashes as well!

This isn't a zero-sum question of selfish bicyclists vs beleaguered commuters. These projects are typically a win-win-win for drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians.
“Car infrastructure first” has failed—loud, polluted, and dangerous streets are the result. Build people infrastructure (sidewalks, protected lanes, safer crossings, transit priority) and we get calmer traffic and healthier communities. Newton is the latest proof.

I'm always amazed at the economic vitality of Utrecht: Businesses are thriving, cafes are full, streets are clean, buses run on time.

The main street through town holds buses, service vehicles, and people -- walking, on bike & cargo bikes.

Want a city that works? Invest in people, not their cars.
