It's great that reporting on the double tap has spotlighted the abject criminality of this Administration.

But don't forget: Venezuela is not waging war on America or Americans, and the men killed were not combatants.

The first strike was every bit as illegal as the second.

Breaking news: Government officials said they are increasingly concerned that the Trump administration intends to scapegoat the military officer who directed U.S. forces to kill survivors of a targeted strike on suspected drug smugglers in Latin America.
Hegseth, with White House help, tries to distance himself from boat strike fallout
As Congress vows accountability, the Trump administration emphasized it was a top military commander — not the defense secretary — who directed the engagement.

What has happened today from both DOD and DHS absolutely is further advancing the position I laid out at Law Dork over the weekend.
The Trump administration's lawlessness is front and center, on multiple fronts
The response to the shooting of two National Guard troops, reporting on the boat-strike murders, and the continued contempt inquiry keep Trump's lawlessness in the news.

A police stop is enough to make someone less likely to vote, recent research has found. "Voting is a reflection of our belief that we’re part of the system, that our voice matters."

New research shows how the communities that are most heavily policed are pushed away from politics and from having a say in changing policy.

Additionally, the snow is falling so gently and beautifully right now. Winter looks so good on Chicago, I wish we made it easier to get out and enjoy it, but this is what most of the PBLs look like right now:

Loved this 🧵 from the NY Transit Museum, in honor of Rosa Parks' anniversary today, about the desegregation of the NYC transit system. In 1854! By a teacher!

Side note: When my son was little, NY Transit Museum was one of our favorite spots. It's a gem of a local museum for kids and adults alike.
How was #NYC's transit system desegregated? In 1854, Elizabeth Jennings Graham, a 24-year-old Black school teacher, stood her ground on a NYC streetcar. Jennings was ordered to get off the car and wait for a car that served African American passengers.

TX Tech has a flow chat for guidance on what can be taught in the university system. Two things:
1. Very little content seems to be permitted. This is partisan control of the curriculum.
2. I would not enjoy teaching under these conditions, but I really would not want to be a Chair or Dean.

NPR is straight up regurgitating a right wing think tank's report on birth rates in red states v. blue states. No mention of education level differences.

This is why I do not give NPR my $$$$.

Trump just gave a commutation to David Gentile, a private equity executive who defrauded investors of $1.6B.

Meanwhile, Trump's regime has also scrapped enforcement actions against over 160 corporations accused of misconduct.

Big Oil is "wildly desperate to dodge the growing array of lawsuits over the damage caused by their decades-long scheme to deceive the public about climate change," writes @aaronregunberg.bsky.social.

The fossil fuel industry is again urging the Supreme Court to help them escape accountability.
The Supreme Court’s Ethics Code Is a Joke. Big Oil Knows That.
Oil companies want the Supreme Court to intervene to dismiss lawsuits about climate change. Amy Coney Barrett and Samuel Alito both have big conflicts of interest on that front.

Myth: drivers deserve more space on roads than cyclists & pedestrians because they pay registration and gas taxes

Facts: (1) registration and gas taxes don’t cover all the costs of road construction and maintenance; (2) most bikers/peds also have a car (90% of US households owns one)
