Paleontologist and professor at University of Edinburgh, dinosaur enthusiast and writer. Free born man of the USA. Immigrant. Husband & father. (views mine)
Special visitor to the lab: our pal @cmarksventers.bsky.social , brilliant Edinburgh artist and dinosaur enthusiast!

Cordy has one of the most colourful, original & charming styles. And she wouldn’t even call herself a paleoartist, but she should!

Give her a follow to see more of her work.

As you're enjoying turkey with your family, think of Any Lucia Lopez Belloza.

19 years old, freshman in college, about to board a flight home to join her family for Thanksgiving.

Detained by ICE, then deported in *direct violation* of a judge's order.

What's behind anti-immigrant rhetoric in the UK:

'About one in five Britons refused to acknowledge that migration had fallen, even when presented with the official data'

'People choose to disregard statistics that do not correlate with their beliefs'

This is cruelty beyond belief

Stephen is American. His British wife entered the US legally, didn't commit any crimes, was entitled to a Green Card

At her final interview, ICE agents swarmed her, took her 4-month-old child from her arms, and detained her

What's the secret to being a 'good' and 'productive' scientist? Having a lab with the brightest, most enthusiastic students!

And here, in no particular order, is a sample of Univ of Edinburgh student research at last week's @societyofvertpaleo.bsky.social meeting in Birmingham!

What a great time at this year’s @societyofvertpaleo.bsky.social meeting in Birmingham!

ICE is pepper spraying toddlers.

This one-year-old was in her car seat, inside the car, with her parents, in a parking lot. They were out buying groceries. Then ICE confronted them, and arrested a bunch of American citizens.

Watch this child cry. Imagine it's your child.

The real Jim Watson, in all his complexity. Brilliance and bigotry, he contained multitudes.
Okay, here are some first reflections on Watson.
Watson's life is a tragedy, really of Shakespearean proportions. He did not, as most bios will tell you, do one great thing when he was young and then collect laurels for it for the next 60 years. His career arc was unlike any in science.

Were Dinos On Their Way Out Before The Asteroid Hit? Maybe Not
Two new studies suggest that, contrary to longstanding beliefs, dinosaurs were not on the decline before the Chicxulub asteroid impact.
