Chuck Schumer's starting position should be as maximalist as possible -- complete abolition of ICE, resignations of Bovino, Homan, Noem and Miller, unmasking of all agents, and prosecution by state authorities of the murderers.

Don't start with what looks like a compromise half-measure.
Majority of the country now wants to abolish and/or dismantle ICE and yet Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. told the caucus the message had to be to “restrain, reform and restrict ICE.”

Once again it looks like Schumer is about to choke after getting a massive opportunity.

So pathetic and weak.

Schumer, Jeffries and much of the current Democratic Party is not built for this fight or made for this moment.

They've had 10 years. Just look at their actions. Trust your own eyes.

We have to cull the party and replace the Vichy Dems with actual fighters and reformers.

It's the only way.

Yes, but Trump knows if Stephen Miller goes then the White House falls apart. He's the most powerful unelected man in the world and is essentially the head of DHS and DOJ.
if bovino is out and conservatives are turning on noem then there is a real opportunity to demand that miller resign too.

Agree with this assessment.
The administration is "deeply frustrated"? To my mind, Noem/Bovino carried out what the White House wanted (see statements from Miller absolving ICE and smearing Good and Pretti), and now that its backfired, they are being used by Trump as scapegoats to absolve the WH of accountability.
Dont forget.

I don't know about you, but I have a very hard time believing that this administration is going to allow our own US midterms to transpire in a free and fair manner.

I know that some people hate it when I say this, but the Democratic Party is utterly failing to meet this moment and I’m far from the only person who feels this way.
The shadow cabinet idea was a great idea and should have been implemented a year ago. Would have presented an organized, unified response to the chaos, issue by issue, by people with expertise.
Democrats could act like a real opposition party, refusing to validate Trump malfeasance with votes, and setting up a shadow cabinet that regularly communicates how Democrats would be different. But nah.

It’s not only a majority of Democratic voters that hate this approach. US allies see it too.

NEW: In this interview, Chuck Schumer describes the "five buckets" Dems think are key to their possibly winning a Senate majority in 2026: housing, "the high price of food [and] food monopolies playing a major role there," electricity, "the high cost of childcare," and health care.
Zero Chucks Left to Give
Chuck Schumer now sees a path back to the majority. Can he manage his way through it?

the 1883 explosion of the Krakatoa volcano, the loudest sound ever recorded, reached 180 dB. decibels are logarithmic, which means that while a motorcycle is about 100 dB, the Krakatoa explosion (180 dB) was 10 million times louder. this horn advertises itself as 600 dB. it would render us extinct.

It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.
