Ahh! This explains the new followers. Welcome!
You should listen to @doublepivotpodcast.bsky.social where @michaelcaley.bsky.social and I do soccer yammering that’s occasionally about soccer.
Like today when we talked about Euros (the currency) and the Turkish Lira.

I have very little patience for arguments that cast the people whose healthcare premiums are spiking as being abandoned in a morally heinous way while the people whose SNAP was about to expire as necessary casualties of fighting Republicans.
Plenty of ways to light into Dems without doing that.

On the first issue, that was a pretty common take on Bluesky when the Democrats decided that ACA subsidies would be the main shutdown demand. That's why people here criticized it at the time.
Ezra Klein, having spoken to a "dozen or so House and Senate Democrats" over the weekend, says at least some of them worried extending the ACA subsidies would take them off the table as a political issue and wanted Republicans to keep the filibuster.

I mean King was voting against the shutdown the entire time!

It was a foregone conclusion that for a large chunk of posters the shutdown was the ends and not the means and any end to it would be interpreted as a cave by feckless Dems.
That doesn’t mean that this particular end wasn’t a cave by feckless Dems though.

Apart from your opinions on the shutdown dynamics it’s absolutely wild to say that Dems core voters don’t show up after last Tuesday’s elections.
Like you gotta tether your punditry to reality at some point.

the Dems keep operating like this cynical shit has no effect. It’s why their core voters don’t fucking show up. When they say “we fight for you” nobody believes them, because they constantly pull shit like this and say “what else are you gonna vote for.” But then people STAY HOME.

I, a 15-year career federal employee, am responsible for ACA subsidies being taken away.
Not the tens of millions of people who voted to give Donald Trump's Republican Party control of the American government, no, they're blameless victims. It's my fault and I should suffer for it.
fuck this shit.

There are a lot of unanswered questions here to say the least.
Prosecutors allege that Luis Ortiz was paid $5,000 for throwing an intentional ball June 15 and Emmanuel Clase given $5,000 for facilitating it. They did it again, according to the indictment, June 27. The payment for each on that pitch was $7,000 apiece.

More from Passan: “The 23-page indictment against Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz lays out the alleged scheme for the pitchers to intentionally throw balls so bettors could wager on pitches to be balls or strikes. It started, prosecutors say, as early as May 2023 with Clase and later included Ortiz.”
Breaking news per Jeff Passan: “Cleveland Guardians pitchers Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz have been indicted by prosecutors in Brooklyn on a host of charges related to a scheme to rig bets on pitches thrown in MLB games. Ortiz was arrested in Boston earlier today. Clase is not currently in custody”

the sort of thing that shows having blue governors in otherwise red states is incredibly important
This is significant in Kansas, which announced on Friday that it was distributing full benefits to all SNAP recipients & doing it *right freakin' now*. As in, not reloading the cards in its usual way, over multiple days, by last name of household head. All SNAP cards were to be full by COB Friday.
I've added this update to my story about the ongoing torture of SNAP recipients:

One of the last straws on Twitter for me was Malcolm Harris being like “we don’t know if swastikas are bad now” and now here we have “Mamdani is a bad anti-Zionist for condemning a swastika” and I gotta be honest I miss the days when swastikas we’re not a thing we had to periodically discourse about

I’ve seen worse statements. But this might be one of the most “this is a statement, now I’ve made a statement and you can’t say I’ve not made a statement” statements I’ve seen.

Asked about the league's change from its prior policy on trans players & future plans for a new policy, and got this reply:
