The New York Mets are hiring Kai Correa as their bench coach, sources confirm to ESPN. Correa, bench coach and interim manager in San Francisco and an integral part of Cleveland’s coaching staff since 2024, will be Carlos Mendoza’s right-hand man. On the news: @ragazzoreport.

Albert, 44, served as hitting coach for the St. Louis Cardinals and joined the Mets in 2022. New York’s farm system is teeming with good young bats, and the plan is to have Albert run hitting at the major league level and complement him with another hitting coach, sources said.

New York Mets director of hitting development Jeff Albert will be in charge of the major league team’s hitting program in 2026, sources tell ESPN. Albert will be in uniform and help fill the void left by the firings of hitting coaches Jeremy Barnes and Eric Chavez.

Over his last two playoff starts, Blake Snell has thrown 14 innings, allowed two hits and struck out 19. He made the Phillies (eighth in MLB in runs scored) and Brewers (third) look positively feckless. When Snell is on, there are few better. A tremendous performance in Game 1.

The Mariners are boat-racing the Blue Jays. After Josh Naylor's two-run homer in the seventh, Seattle leads, 9-3. The Rogers Centre crowd that was so hot at the beginning of the game has gone silent. An ignominious way to start the ALCS.

The Blue Jays are getting after Logan Gilbert. He made 25 starts this season and allowed fewer than five hits in 14 of them. Today he's got five outs and has yielded five hits. After Nathan Lukes' second hit of the day, an RBI single to right-center, it's 3-3 and Vlad Jr. is up.

Three batters into Game 2 of the ALCS, the Mariners lead 3-0. Julio Rodríguez took a hanging splitter from Trey Yesavage out into left field. A nightmare start for the Blue Jays. A dream continuation of last night from Seattle.

FINAL: Mariners 3, Blue Jays 1

After giving up a home run on the first pitch he threw, Bryce Miller and three relievers gave up one hit the rest of the game to steal a road win in Game 1 of the ALCS. Cal Raleigh homered, Jorge Polanco drove in two and Seattle got a huge win.

The Mariners take relentless at-bats. They're the best kinds of pests. Jorge Polanco, the walk-off hero of Game 5 of the ALDS, just knocked in his second run of the night. It's the eighth, Seattle leads 3-1 and the Mariners continue to threaten in Game 1 of the ALCS.

George Springer mauled the first pitch he saw from Bryce Miller out to right-center field. He knew it, too. Rogers Centre is on fire. Toronto leads, 1-0.

FINAL: Brewers 3, Cubs 1

The best team in baseball this season advances to the NLCS, where the Dodgers await. Milwaukee did it with excellent pitching and three solo HR, and Miller Park will host Game 1 on Monday. The Cubs pushed the Brewers to the limit. Milwaukee was better.

Your starting-pitching matchup in Game 5 between the Cubs and Brewers: Drew Pomeranz vs. Trevor Megill. Leverage reliever vs. leverage reliever in a series that has seen 21 runs scored in the first inning. It’s going to be a festival of bullpenning to see who faces the Dodgers.

FINAL: Mariners 3, Tigers 2

The Seattle Mariners are headed to the ALCS for the first time since 2001 and will face Toronto after Jorge Polanco walked off Detroit in the 15th inning. It was the longest winner-takes-all playoff game in MLB history. Amazing night, amazing series.

What kind of game is this? Three of the four starting pitchers this series for both teams have pitched in it.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is doing his best to hold back tears on the field at Yankee Stadium. He is losing that battle.

This means more to him than anyone on the Blue Jays’ roster. He committed to 14 years with the Jays and was rewarded with the deepest playoff run of his career.

FINAL: Blue Jays 5, Yankees 2

The Toronto Blue Jays are headed to the American League Championship Series. Eight pitchers combined to shut down the Yankees, and a balanced offense overwhelmed New York all series. Game 1 on Sunday at Rogers Centre.

The Yankees fall short again.

Today is the last day of the year with four Major League Baseball games -- and all four are potential clinchers. The schedule:

Seattle (up 2-1) at Detroit, 3:08p ET

Milwaukee (2-0) at Chicago, 5:08p

Toronto (2-1) at New York, 7:08p

Philadelphia at Los Angeles (2-0), 9:08p

FINAL: Yankees 9, Blue Jays 6

Toronto was 39-0 this year in games it led by five or more runs. After Aaron Judge paced New York’s rousing, season-saving come-from-behind win with a three-run HR off the foul pole, it's 39-1. Tremendous fortitude from Yankees, awful loss for Jays.
jeffpasan.bsky.social
The Yankees’ ability to barrage a team with home runs always keeps them in the game. And if they can hold the lead, which they now have after a Jazz Chisholm homer, Toronto is facing a bullpen game tomorrow, a day after their RP needed to cover 5+ innings. Not ideal for the Jays.
jeffpasan.bsky.social
It's 6-1 Blue Jays. Carlos Rodón is done after giving up nearly as many runs (six) as he got outs (seven). Toronto walked into Yankee Stadium and has put a muzzle on the place.
jeffpasan.bsky.social
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. just took Carlos Rodón deep, and the Blue Jays have a 2-0 lead 14 pitches into Game 3. He's single-handedly beating the Yankees.

FINAL: Dodgers 4, Phillies 3

In a must-win game, Philadelphia scored two in the ninth but couldn’t scratch across the most important run, with Roki Sasaki logging a one-out save. A must-win game for the Phillies ends in a crushing loss. The Dodgers have now won nine straight.
jeffpasan.bsky.social
Trey Yesavage's splitter is gross.

FINAL: Dodgers 5, Phillies 3

Los Angeles steals home field by scoring five unanswered runs — all with two outs. Teoscar Hernández’s three-run homer staked the Dodgers the lead, and Tyler Glasnow, Alex Vesia and Roki Sasaki shut down Philadelphia over the final three innings.

It is 6:02 p.m. Shohei Ohtani is walking to the bullpen. And Citizens Bank Park is booing him vociferously.

Tonight is going to be fun.
