Ahh! This explains the new followers. Welcome!

You should listen to @doublepivotpodcast.bsky.social where @michaelcaley.bsky.social and I do soccer yammering that’s occasionally about soccer.

Like today when we talked about Euros (the currency) and the Turkish Lira.

For over a decade the operating force in American politics has been “Donald Trump gets to do crimes because the Republican Party thinks it’s good for Republicans if Donald Trump gets to do crimes.”

I don’t really think people are prepared for what happens if (very much not a guarantee) that changes

For the record I went with Tactical Breach Wizards. Which for an hour was a gosh darn delight. Will I pick it up again? Who can say?
So my dumbass half functional shoulder has made console gaming unpleasant for the time being. Now that I’m off enough painkillers that Ball x Pit has gone from dull fun to meh I am having trouble finding laptop games that are the right level of thinky (well short of paradox) but not muscle twitchy.

I find this sort of messaging so much better than insisting that the USA is somehow poor in aggregate.
In the richest city in the richest country on the planet, the thing we can’t afford is to forget those who are left hungry.

Tele-Rally! That’s hilariously negative juice.
Trump and Mike Johnson plan to hold a Monday evening tele-rally to boost Matt Van Epps in the #TN07 special election. www.axios.com/2025/11/28/t...

Look it’s all Kremlinology but these are not the posts of an admin that thinks it’s got all its own troops onside at the moment.
Trump posts an image of him holding a sign that reads, “Trump 2028, yes!”

It is worth noting where the ambitious ones thing the puck is headed.
Strong message from Congressman Moulton:

“Mark my words: It may take some time, but Americans will be prosecuted for this, either as a war crime or outright murder.”

People used to make this joke about soccer too.

A lot people like UFC. A lot of other people are old.
Wow, I can watch UFC 38479 with Piladt Zuryn taking on Redwaut Biffcon and all I have to do is give money to Paramount?

Sometimes I think about how old you have to be now to have experienced a normal (non GFC variety) recession.

But, like, sometimes the economy just gets kinda bad for a while and that’s a thing that happens. Ask your grandpa.
It is not remotely true that post-2008 crash safeguards have been torn to shreds, the banking and financial system is extremely robust right now (it absorbed a trillion of MTM losses and only nerds noticed), and outside private credit being sold to rich dentists there isn’t much repackaging going on

Need more numbers like this to confirm that the numbers are like this. But these are not numbers a trump admin can ride out.

Not for like magic public decency reasons or anything. Those are lots of Rs start wanting to shiv (metaphorically) the boss numbers. And there’s lots of knives lying around.
Gallup poll | 11/3-11/25

If the Trump administration utterly falls apart I’d expect the media organs that failed to predict the movement’s rise to be the last to know, not the first.

If you wanna be my lovah, you gotta get with my friends.
We'll be singin'
When we're winnin'
We'll be singin'

I get knocked down
But I get up again
You're never gonna keep me down

Today’s life lesson well learned:

When the physical therapist says “this session will leave you a little sore” it’s like the dentist saying “you’re going to feel a little discomfort.”

If I were Real Madrid I would pick a different player at one of my rivals every week to make a public announcement that I have no intention of signing him, he’s shit actually

It’s a weird thing because it is ALWAYS true that POTUS sits atop an entire apparatus that does lots of stuff the POTUS is at best nominally aware of and only occasionally rises to the level of the executive needing to weigh in.

But most admins understand this as the constraint they work within.
Effectively there is no *one* person performing the duties of President of the United States right now. We are in an interregnum with an occupied throne.
The fundamental thing to understand about this administration is the president is a grumpy retiree. He has no interest in working anymore. Which leads to him being pissed that he is getting asked a question, pissed he has to show up and work, the scheming viziers running the show, etc..

As an aside it was interesting trying to pick up CK3 again during this and basically having the part of my brain I’d usually use to engage in it basically go “mate, we’re at capacity over here fuck off.”

Thanksgiving occurred in a historical context that can be ignored or inaccurately skewed in the service of any number of modern social projects.

Like literally every single other event in history.
I don’t think a holiday celebrating cooperation and fellowship with and expressing gratitude towards Native American has any particular innate relation to the genocide of Native American, in contrast to e.g. Columbus Day
Thanksgiving is problematic. Giving thanks is not. As someone who wants to remember the attempted genocide of indigenous people but also likes a reminder to practice gratitude, I like to use Indigenous People's Month to support (and be grateful for) indigenous creators. A partial list! /1

It’s such a wild coincidence that at exactly the point in my life when halftime shows starting featuring acts that I remember fondly from my youth they also started getting good and not corny or lame.

Me a genius: Cutting a deal with the eight year old where I hand her the phone to read song lyrics so she’ll quit complaining about my music.

Me an idiot: Third Eye Blinds Semi-Charmed life comes on.

Journalists in America expend hours of hard work and personal capital and trust trying to convince people that the world of journalism does not look like what Olivia Nuzzi used every inch of herself (and apparently I do mean every inch though god do I wish I didn’t know that) to make it look like.
November 26, 2025 at 10:54 PM
Listen there are a lot less media jobs than there used to be. And if what Nuzzi did doesn’t fill you with blinding incandescent rage you should probably get out in favor of somebody who is appropriately appalled.
