not sure if it's possible to play Balogun and Wright at the same time

but what this post presupposes is,
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
While we're here, Jake, thought you might enjoy Chuck's "get a job" comments this week
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
what have you gone Mark Viduka
a continent turns its lonely eyes to you
socceroos
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
not sure how many of these guys are the full A team but they've been on some Guatemala shit thus far
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
meanwhile Australia spending this first 45 honoring the continent of their hosts with some extremely CONCACAF challenges
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
2 goals from 2 different strikers in 2 games? for the USMNT?

sorcery? witchcraft?

awesomeness?

US equalizes, Haji Wright off a perfect feed from Roldan

I meant to mention Marsh alongside Dye in my post, mistake on my part. And absolutely agree that if you want to give him the Auburn coaching GOAT honor, he earned it.

Will only say I think the general competitiveness of NCAA men's hoops vs NCAA swim makes it a little apples/oranges
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
Yup, and assume for same motivation--tie the school's hands into giving your preferred successor the keys--but seriously doubt BP *needed* to strongarm AU, he had more than enough clout to get Steven the gig regardless
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
Lastly, almost goes without saying, but should probably say it anyway: personal/political objections to Pearl aside, he's the greatest Auburn athletics coach of my lifetime. No one--not even Dye--accomplished the things he accomplished with the kind of program he inherited.

May's still a long way away, but modicum of relief here, at least bsky.app/profile/aubu...

news: Auburn HC Bruce Pearl is retiring, effective immediately, but is NOT running for U.S. Senate

he is staying with the university as a special assistant to the athletic director
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
For the record: no issue with handing the reins to Steven and Burgomaster. Pearl earned that. Those guys earned that.

But the players on the team also earned this not happening one hot minute before the season starts
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
lol no chance IMHO

(though at least these days they're being compensated for their time)
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
considering where Auburn was when Pearl took over and where they are now, can't be mad about him choosing his own time of departure no matter how awkward it might be for the program

but I'm gonna try

BREAKING: Auburn coach Bruce Pearl is retiring, a source tells CBS Sports. It's the second straight offseason CBB has had a high-profile preseason retirement (Tony Bennett at UVa in '24.) Pearl, 65, is coming off his second F4 w/ the Tigers. His son, Steven, will be named the full-time head coach.

hard way to make a livin', not bein' able to throw the ball

Watching Venables kick the FG to force Freeze into playing for a TD instead of letting him settle for another illest-of-ill-advised FG attempts was a bit like watching some samurai movie where the samurai gives his fallen opponent his lost katana back in the name of honor

So sportsmanlike! So dumb!

"where has he been all afternoon?" Sean McDonough asks as Jeremiah Cobb breaks off a long one

he's been right there all along, Sean

but

you know

*shrug*
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
a comic strip about Hugh Freeze trying not to call pass plays
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
that's Sean McDonough, enjoyably cranky in his *cough* upper middle age ... but now that you mention it, his cadence _is_ an awful lot like Pasch's
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
second straight season our conference schedule includes Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky and Vandy but not LSU, Miss St, Florida or Tennessee. Also we play Georgia in early October every year now

it's horseshit and I won't ever be over it
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
no shade on Oklahoma, love me some good skulduggery

but I would like to know where I can wager 10 American dollars on some of kind of "whoops, our bad" press release from the league later
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
the thing about this kind of play is that according to the rules it's not allowed
tomasverde.bsky.social
Per Bob Stoops on the OU radio broadcast, this was a deceptive play the Sooners worked on in practice all week.

Paid off. Ben Arbuckle and John Mateer seemed to look like they knew they got away with something there against Auburn.
tomasverde.bsky.social
Might've been the easiest touchdown pass of John Mateer's life. Isaiah Sategna was wiiiiiiiide open there.

Oklahoma 10, Auburn 3 with 10:45 to go in the first half.

Defense gives up the TD and 2-pointer, guard false starts at worst possible time, Heupel mom's spaghettis it as hard as possible

clear kicker of all charges, please
jerryhinnen.bsky.social
Heupel saw his shadow on that false start and now we get 6 more possessions of OT bsky.app/profile/john...
johnhollinger.bsky.social
No time ran off the clock on the false start, but Vols were okay trying the longer field goal after they were gonna run a play when it was a shorter field goal. Whu?!?!?
