I meant to mention Marsh alongside Dye in my post, mistake on my part. And absolutely agree that if you want to give him the Auburn coaching GOAT honor, he earned it.

Will only say I think the general competitiveness of NCAA men's hoops vs NCAA swim makes it a little apples/oranges

Yup, and assume for same motivation--tie the school's hands into giving your preferred successor the keys--but seriously doubt BP *needed* to strongarm AU, he had more than enough clout to get Steven the gig regardless

Lastly, almost goes without saying, but should probably say it anyway: personal/political objections to Pearl aside, he's the greatest Auburn athletics coach of my lifetime. No one--not even Dye--accomplished the things he accomplished with the kind of program he inherited.

BREAKING: Auburn coach Bruce Pearl is retiring, a source tells CBS Sports. It's the second straight offseason CBB has had a high-profile preseason retirement (Tony Bennett at UVa in '24.) Pearl, 65, is coming off his second F4 w/ the Tigers. His son, Steven, will be named the full-time head coach.

second straight season our conference schedule includes Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky and Vandy but not LSU, Miss St, Florida or Tennessee. Also we play Georgia in early October every year now
