well at least now he's struggling to sell two things
A California winemaker is struggling to sell his Chardonnay ... so he's written a romantasy novella about it. The novella, unsurprisingly, looks awful.

in retrospect I was never going to get Madame to attend this with me (or the women's league semifinal in the same stadium yesterday with marginally better weather)
LOL. Atletico Ottawa almost got a goal early on in the Canadian Premier League final

I wish the moot who's posting their experiences with Mass Effect Andromeda hadn't disabled quotes and replies but, even nearly ten years after it came out, I absolutely understand why
I should give it another chance but that'ill certainly not happen before I finish this EU5 playthrough, dear Lord

I feel like there would be fixture congestion gripes about this but it's probably the one fix best of 3 NEEDS
(some way to prevent penalties before game 3, like first to five points instead of just two wins, would be NICE but there's a wonderful simplicity to "win twice, no matter how, or go home")

This format is great. It gets each team a home game to kick up playoff buzz & builds storylines.
The only thing is that it should be a Sat - Wed - Sun format across the board, so we dont get teams off for 3 weeks if they sweep the opening round.

hoping this upcoming star wars: starfighter movie is just top gun but star wars
ironically what makes star wars stuff best is when it is 'something else, but also star wars'
e.g. Andor, a British political thriller but also Star Wars
the Mandalorian, an episode-of-the-week Western but also Star Wars (when it was good)

it is perhaps not surprising that the (very many) US soccer journalists I follow have a clearer-eyed understanding of where European social politics actually are than like 95+% of Online Americans
hard to maintain the Europe-as-liberal-fantasyland perspective once you've seen clips of entire stadiums making monkey noises at black soccer players

the PERVASIVENESS of it might be laid at the door of Google, Apple, and Meta, but only in the sense that they made the same social dynamics the Internet allowed for us early adopters accessible to the broader society, and enabled them to take up more space in our daily lives
The belief that internet tribalism was invented by Google and Mark Zuckerberg when a common end-stage of a forum lifecycle was "Forum Drama reaches critical mass, Forum splits into several smaller Fora which spend >10% of their time talking about how much they hate each other" is wild.

This is a manifestation of one way that social media is corrosive of liberalism is that it directly attacks a really important part of liberalism, which is going “that seems like a mistake, but crucially, it’s not my mistake”.
there's an entire sub culture of middle age men who are so impervious to other views that at no point have they ever read any of the many comments pointing out that an obsessive interest in student politics is deeply fucking creepy? anyway, this is worse.
The hatred the youth parliament gets is just so out of proportion. Can these people hear themselves. It’s creepy.

Well, maybe both isn't necessary (there's no possible good outcome where e.g. Japan isn't at least partially dependent on food imports), but you'd damn well better be running up the score on at least one.
your country should be massively overprovisioned for food and electricity or you have done it wrong
Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

I am Not Quite Getting the main plot of DEAD HAND RULE yet (tbf I'm only 10-20% in) but in the meantime this entire side story with Belladonna Albrecht's daughter pinballing around the conclave and city is delightful
It was fascinating to watch Belladonna parent, because her traditional approach to problem-solving, to wit, overwhelming firepower and/or blood sacrifice, was distinctly unsuited for the task.

Am I just being a bitter ex about MDS or would this be a really underwhelming choice from them?
not that I should complain

Sources: LAFC assistant Marc Dos Santos is the frontrunner to be named LAFC's next head coach when Steve Cherundolo leaves this winter.

this is what the press (or something like the press) is NEEDED for but it is not what anyone, even their audience, actually pays them for and the US interpretation of press freedom (plus the Internet) seems to prevent them from being effectively forced to in the name of the public interest
It is the press’s job to inform people of news like ”what policies the government implements.” Like, that’s just objectively what the news *is.*

If UK football/US baseball fans are always miserable because they're stuck in an idealised past where the game was pure and always Played The Right Way, American soccer fans are always miserable because they're stuck in an idealised future where every aspect of the game is perfect and unmockable
Decision Day nomenclature discourse is one of the biggest Nothing Burger conversations we have every year. There’s a reason it’s accepted, not a single other alternative sounds better unfortunately. As much as I admire us trying to change it every year

There are a couple of things they did that I genuinely hate or hope they fix for Tuesday (what madman decided this game was playable without saved player/staff search filters) but not too proud to admit that most of the real problem is how much it fucks with like 10-20 years of muscle memory, yes
I decided to buy FM26. I’m still super enthralled by my current FM24 save and am planning on continuing it, but from the moment they announced WoSo I knew I was going to buy it no matter what. The new tactics are really fun. But everything else so far feels so off I’ll need A LOT of time to adapt
