I produced on mostly harmless teevee for a long time. Trying to be done with that. Dad stuff, nerd shit, six cats, charming grognard grievances for days.
I think it is really awesome how nerdist dot com (which has not been associated with That Man in like nine years or something) has managed to keep so many of the same writers writing for it for 6, 7, 8, however many years.

I’m biased, I worked there once. But I just love that.

In 2025, the Trump administration and GOP officials in key states have viciously targeted the voting rights of naturalized citizens with new access barriers, selective surveillance and intimidatory rhetoric — signaling that the full promises of citizenship, for many, remain unattainable.

An important part of arresting the consolidation of authoritarianism is convincing corporations and institutions that Trump will eventually be out of power and at that point they’ll face consequences for their actions and by that standard this is a good sign

The reason why people care about Leavitt’s Thanksgiving is because this gov’t is going out of its way to sell the aesthetics of MAGAism. From Hegseth’s “no beard” policy to Duffy’s airport dress code, to their support of trad wife content. The movement depends on it. And when it’s gross, it’s funny.

Don't tell me that Louis CK was never funny.

Louis CK was absolutely funny before his controversy and it's remarkable that after being backed into a corner, he went all in on unfunny racist and transphobic jokes.

It's FASCINATING how he stopped being funny overnight.

My actual opinion is that narrative film (only one specific slice of visual media) is more like jazz or theater now where it’s fairly niche and most of it is also bad because of a collapse in audiences + long term artistic stagnation but it’s not polite to say this

It's not even the best Survivor Rocky song!

This is a legitimate scientific revolution in meteorology.

Also, to be clear, these models are not the AI LLMs that most people are familiar with. They are machine learning algorithms trained on observations (actually reanalysis).

THIS THIS THIS.

The year of closed schools was catastrophic for development, in different ways for each age.

People without kids or that don’t work in schools don’t understand how much the modes of remote learning came back into the in-person classroom.
My lived experience and that of people I know is that something is up with this intake of students. My opinion is this has significantly more to do with COVID and screens than with AI. Plus, the latter topic is breeding all manner of paranoid catastrophising, impotent rage and cliché.
