he/him I produced on mostly harmless teevee for a long time. Trying to be done with that. Dad stuff, nerd shit, six cats, charming grognard grievances for days.

He’s right but he’s not licensed for this critique given his priors!

Bernie Sanders on out-of-touch Democratic Party leadership:

“… the Mamdani campaign is a crystallization of that. And if the Democratic leadership can’t support the Democratic nominee, what is the Democratic Party? Who’s the Democratic Party?”

People Are Furious With Democrats. Bernie Sanders Knows Why.
Democratic Party leadership is way out of touch with where the American people are, and it’s almost frightening to see the kind of anger and contempt that people feel toward it.

“how computers perceive the world”

Drew Struzan was the greatest movie poster artist who ever lived. We can’t think of so many of our most beloved movies without thinking of his art. I had his 1978 Star Wars re-release poster hanging on my wall for years. RIP to a true legend in what is sadly now a mostly lost art form.

Today’s middle school tour had a STEM teacher’s board read “Students will learn how computers perceive the world and learn the positive and negative effects of AI”

Rest in peace, Drew Struzan. His movie posters are much more than marketing. They're some of the finest pop art you'll ever see. Look at this masterpiece:

I think of it as a ritual where the works of the person are canonized.

I used to think public mourning for celebs you never met was an unnecessary or odd use of social media, but now I think the collective part of it is one of its more redeemable uses.

RIP D'Angelo, the greatest singer since Marvin departed. Who took the grit & attitude of hip-hop & alchemized it into angelic voodoo. He condensed the human condition - sex, suffering, addiction, love, oppression - into pure transcendence. A comet emitting blinding light & soul.

D'Angelo was remarkable in so many ways. I'm saddest right now, as a fan, that we won't be getting an eccentric late period from him. His contributions remain inestimable but what he would have made in his 50s and onward, I just know it would have been amazing. RIP

Not that anybody comes to me for Maine politics, but the fact that the Democrats successfully convinced a 77yo Governor to primary the 41yo progressive, is today's example of why the Democrats fucking stay failing.

Susan Collins is 72 and if Schumer gets his way, she'll be the YOUNGER choice!

D’Angelo, the neo-soul trailblazer and modern visionary whose three albums were all heralded as classic works of art, has died at age 51.

Drew Struzan authored the visual style of our mind’s eye when we think of pop culture cinema. We remember and think of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and others as he painted them.

Torn up hearing about the passing of Drew Struzan. He's had such an influence on my art and imagination since I was a kid. No one's ever done it better.

Hey news people: I know you like to pretend this doesn't exist, but you need to pay attention to the Nazi drama on Twitter. Basically, it seems as if Elon just restored two major neo-Nazi accounts that were banned by his product head, and might be about to fire the product head for banning them

I favor neighborhood events over “march on the statehouse”.

The press can ignore the downtown march and a lot of neighbors won’t go downtown. But your neighbors won’t be able to ignore the crowd by the mall.

None of the X-Men deserve happiness and it’s boring when any of them get it. Twee smirking happy Gambit sucks. m

Inner torment and existential angst tempered by steely-eyed reserve against inevitable defeat is what makes the X-Men sing.

What's an opinion about X-Men that'll get you sent to jail? Is Jean really interesting or really boring? Should Logan have stayed dead? Do you think a certain x-mens outfit is positively horrendous even though people seem to love it?

The Brood Saga is better than Dark Phoenix imo 🤷

I kinda agree but Scott + Emma only works because Scott + Jean worked first.

Scott + Emma is the Rogue One to Scott + Jean’s OT. It’s an interrogation of what we assume is true about Scott + Jean.

Scott + Emma works way, way better than Scott + Jean.

The Age of Apocalypse was the only interesting use of Apocalypse as a character.

Havok is the more interesting Summers brother.

Frank goes on in the film to make the rhetorical argument that if Presbyterians and Jews shouldn’t get along then how could we cooperate to bomb the Japanese?! (he uses the abbreviated pejorative of course)

one of the reasons they're so mad at "no kings" is that they thought they were going to get a different kind of protest. they *want* the black bloc to be out there fighting with the cops. those are the images they've been trying to generate from "go." instead--

MAGA Rage at “No Kings” Boils Over—and It Quickly Backfires on Trump
As Trump allies smear the coming protests, a good writer on MAGA skewers the absurdity of these attacks on large swaths of Americans—and explains why our best recourse will be to turn out in force.
