I think this is right. As someone who’s used it a lot/frequently trapped in Discourse, my experience
1.) Pretty helpful with (quant) research. More useful than doomers admit
2.) Not nearly as revolutionary as proponents push
3.) Many who find it useful greatly underestimate terrifying downsides
