spending the day with artist Gustave Courtois (1852-1923), whose paintings are a record of the hot men he fell in love with - including his great muse, bodybuilder Maurice Deriaz.

When they were exhibited Courtois was met with a wave of revulsion from critics at his open, undisguised desire.

Let’s remember that if you reside in: New Jersey, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, or Washington- come January 1, 2026 Medicare patients will be piloting a prior authorization program that not only utilizes AI as a decision maker, but that also gives vendors financial incentive to deny services…

I loved writing these show-rec essays! So many series to choose from

Also it’s maybe my ongoing mission to give people some options for investing in and engaging with queer art/media in a more transnational way,

While this usually isn't the intent, "no one will ever be held accountable for this" doomerism is an excuse not to try.

There'll be at least some accountability if enough Americans work for it. And this time really is different. Doesn't guarantee the aftermath will be, but it increases the chances.

my “AI is over” anecdote is that my wife was hired over the summer to write scripts for a big tech company explaining how to use their AI tools and after many rounds of revisions, the latest notes said “we’re finding a lot of AI fatigue among our users” and to remove all references to AI
Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother

Romance has been keeping publishing afloat for a while now. And far more people read romance than will admit to it.

And in the audiobook world? We have narrators who are FAMOUS for doing romance audiobooks. They’re basically celebrities.
seriously, it appears that while basically nobody is reading fiction anymore when it comes to 90% of genres of literature, a lot of very horny people must be spending a lot of money on romance novels

As everyone knows, the basis of capitalism is that if a product is great you'll need to cram it down everyone's throats (without consent) for years before finally being bailed out by the government
"All of this falls apart if humans don't adopt the tech. This is why you've seen Meta cram its lame chatbots into WhatsApp and Instagram. This is why Notepad and Paint now have useless Copilot buttons on Windows. This is why Google Gemini wants to "help you" read and reply to your emails."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

One thing I learned over the weekend from talking to finance people is that they assume the AI bubble is going to burst and their issue is figuring out when so they can time their trades right.

One of the kindest things you can do for your fellow creators is talk them up. Editors want to hire new people, but nobody wants to get burned. That's reasonable! Hearing from someone they trust that someone has the goods? It means everything. When you get new people work, everyone wins.
