PSA - if you're thinking about picking up Tanith Lee's work because of that viral recommendation for ex Gaiman fans to do so and you're an ex Gaiman fan for personal trauma reasons you might want to know that in addition to being brilliant Tanith Lee also wrote incest and rape a fair bit!

We live in a world where teachers have tried to remove students insulin pumps and cochlear implants because they assumed they were phones or recording devices. Let’s not encourage destroying something that could end up being a legitimate aid.
Sure, counterpoint: I require extremely thick lenses because I have exceedingly bad vision and the only frames that work with them are very similar to Meta glasses. I am literally blind without my glasses, they take 6 weeks to replace and are painfully expensive.

The fascists are counting on you finding erotica and porn too distasteful to support. Because they always start here. And even if they ended here, sexuality and erotism are integral components of queer expression. You can't support queer creators without supporting 'nsfw' content.

Waterboys doing AI visuals for album art is especially worrying, bc they're such a neo-Boomerish, respect for the craft, tastefully modernised trad outfit. So, for them to be skimping on production values in that direction feels like one of us is misreading the room for that kind of selling point...

It shouldn’t be missed how many examples of Farage’s racist bullying are from when he was 17-18 & the kids were 9-10. He’s always been a coward
"'Where are you from?’ he asked. Within seconds of offering my rather confused and sputtering answers, he had a clear response: ‘That’s the way back to Africa,’ with an accompanying hand gesture pointing towards a place far away."

part of it is that they hate women, part of it is that they hate her specifically because they think she should want to fuck them, part of it is that all this shit is for the benefit of like 10K people on twitter who've all been legally prohibited from having unsupervised time with their children
I don't really know what the administration hopes to gain by picking fights with the most well-liked pop artists in the United States. You're just generating backlash for no discernible reason outside of owning the libs.
Sabrina Carpenter ratioed the White House after it used her song in an ICE video.

The WH deleted the post…but now it’s back with a new ICE video, this time using an altered clip from Carpenter’s SNL monologue.

The White House’s insistence on using Sabrina Carpenter’s work and image to promote their crimes against humanity is also them appealing to their base, which already uses technology to try and humiliate and puppeteer the likenesses of women who have autonomy, success, and visibility in public

BTW I thought I was over performatively hating on Huey Lewis and the News, because 1) it's more fun to performatively hate on The Offspring, and 2) Huey Lewis himself seems to be an OK guy, but sometimes you need something to measure other things by and for that, our man is still useful.
Eh, it's pretty bad, but the worst? Unless all of Huey Lewis and the News's (the yardstick by which I measure badness in pop music) work has been written out of history, it's not even close.
On a related note to previous conversations, THIS is what I think is, without a doubt, the worst pop song out of the 80s, a song for which, from the very first time I heard it, I felt an instant revulsion, and upon watching the video, I strongly felt I needed a tetanus shot

And you usually get some smartypants saying "But discs can go bad!"

Yes, discs can go bad. Film and burn. 16mm copies can rot.

But one thing film history has taught us is that titles are far, far safer in the hands of affectionate amateurs than they are with the studios.

I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

Cosmically funny that, the American public has had less than a year of uncut republican governance, and they’ve decided that they absolutely hate this shit, spit it out

There's a couple reasons so many IWW songs are set to the tunes of hymns and one is that the Salvation Army Band would show up and try to stop workers organizing by playing hymns to drown out speeches, so the Wobblies came up with words so they could sing along. SA has been trash all along.
It's that giving time of year again, so this is a reminder that no matter how they try to dress it up, the Salvation Army is not a charity.
