You really have to read this thread. The genius of Tom Stoppard, the fragility of memory, the magic of theatre — and the glorious stubbornness of a researcher who would not stop.
Eleven years ago, I wrote to Tom Stoppard to ask about this coup de théâtre from 1949. It took me down an unexpected rabbit hole - in memory of Stoppard, here's what I found.

Yeah, the "dynamic pricing" in big box stores is the same. Depending on who is looking at the tag, time of day, etc. the price for items can literally change from the shelf to the register. 😤 Freaking DISNEY is even going to start using it! deadline.com/2025/11/disn...
Disney Will Bring Dynamic Pricing Similar To Airline Model To Domestic Theme Parks, Says CFO
Disney will bring dynamic pricing similar to the model used by airlines to its domestic theme parks as the company looks to boost incremental revenue.

It’s useful to think about things like this in numbers of tenure track professors.

$33M is 358 assistant professors. Or about fourteen percent of the total number of full-time faculty at Michigan State.
SOURCES: Michigan State is firing head coach Jonathan Smith, @theathletic.com has learned.

He went 9-15 in two seasons, including 1-8 in the Big Ten this year. (ESPN first reported).

MSU players meeting called for 2:45. Smith has a $33 million buyout (with offset).

This was handed in for a PSYCH CLASS & when the prof said she didn't use empirical sources but rather submitted op-ed she whined about religious liberty + prof got suspended.

I was a *Religious Studies* major; in my time she would have been rightly BBQ'd had she dared to hand in this absolute drek.

"I'm going to tax the everloving shit out of the rich people who made your life miserable and put every masked thug who broke the law or traitor who wrecked the government for their own profit in prison" I admit is too long for a sign, but at the very least this should be the spirit of the thing.
No value, no villain, no vision. Sounds like the tagline for the earnings call of a collapsing appliance retailer

Pretty much ANY statistic you see cited to frighten you about vaccines comes from the VAERS database. (Including the recent evidence-free missive from Vinay Prasad). Here's why VAERS can NEVER be a proper source for population-level vaccine risk estimates.

I once had an argument with my dad about a capital gains tax, he was complaining about how it would affect him. I told him to go look at his microwave and I asked if it was dirty. He said yes and I told him to shut up it doesn’t effect you.

Developers are relying on two things to happen:

1) They'll parachute out w profits before inundation becomes a concern.
2) Public bailouts will protect their properties.

I'm sorry, Boston isn't Manhattan, where there are $2+ trillion in assets to protect. AFAICT bailouts needed won't be available.
Why wasn't the project elevated?

Are you going to tell me that the City of Boston didn't know about sea level rise, storm surge and stormwater flooding in 2012? Please.

Nearly 10 years later, as of 2021, Boston still didn't have mandatory resiliency guidelines.

Profits drive decision-making.
Example project by the developer that authored the Globe opinion.

One Channel Center received an $11.5m tax break from Boston. Built for $225m (2012). Sold for $316m (2015). JACKPOT!

The project sits in a FEMA-designated high-risk flood plain. It's already relying on AquaFences.

paprika is why i don’t have hundreds of screenshotted recipes in my phone!
The single most useful cooking app I use, Paprika, is on its annual sale

You give it links and it pulls and formats the recipe for you so you can save it and look at it in the future without ads or long narratives

I use it on my phone, so here’s the link apps.apple.com/us/app/papri...

I am of the opinion that how a person treats service workers tells you who they really are.

They're not hiding it, folks—straight up neo-Nazi advertising, from the font to the language to the 11 stars for the Confederacy. Then you have the DHS openly using white nationalist language of "remigrate", which means ethnic cleansing.

This is who MAGA is now.
