Finally streaming Kenny Leon's 2023 Shakespeare in the Park production of 'Hamlet,' set in modern-day Atlanta. Great cast with Ato Blankson-Wood as an unreadable, unsettling prince, John Douglas Thompson uncommonly sympathetic as Claudius. Streaming free through 12/31. www.pbs.org/wnet/gperf/h...

Google's "AI Overview" invents essay I've never written, about a book published two years after I was supposed to have written it, while claiming the book was published six years before it was published. For gifts like these, the global economic teeters on the verge of collapse.

"[Jack DeJohnette] is a person who for around 50 years, dating from his early work with Charles Lloyd and Jackie McLean, circa 1966, up through In Movement, released in 2016, managed to sound, at every point along this timeline, deeply and restlessly contemporary, forever on the edge."
The Infinity of Jack DeJohnette
The drums are almost beside the point: It was his absolute presence in every musical situation, across a half-century, that made him one of the creative giants of our time

A thread to remind me just how much I miss having Derek Bailey on this planet. Gutted that I can't be in London for the Bailey celebration starting two weeks from today… (1/5)
Spent a rainy afternoon getting stuck into the Derek Bailey biog. The trick is to skip most of the linking passages and just read DB's own lengthy and fascinating accounts of his life, particularly his early life growing up in Sheffield. Avant-garde proles. You can't beat them.
Also, been in that Huddersfield today taking advantage of alumni status at the Uni to use their splendid library to save myself a few quid and indulge in a little light reading before Christmas. Derek and Edwin.

Thread.
Headlines like this are extremely dangerous. Because moms of young kids are the people who make the bulk of the vaccine decisions for famillies. And for a lot of them, "reading the news" looks like scrolling past headlines on social media in the spare moments of the chaos of caring for kids.

Nothing on this earth compares with a slice of quality pecan pie.
I think Pecan Pie is one of those things that is divisive now because it’s just a blob of sugar with nuts on it but to someone 150 years ago who ate shoes it was probably like having 12 orgasms at once

What a strange framing and characterization. How does one describe his blatantly dishonest, racist question about taxes as “press[ing] the Mayor-elect on his policy proposals”? In what way does this lying troll emerge as a “winner“?
