this year i'm thankful for ghoulish books last weekend i was on a panel with writers who'd all been published by small presses. someone in the audience wanted to know how to tell which presses are reputable. we gave them this collective advice check for distribution ask who's editing your book verify what if any kind of book promo they offer

If you're using Steam, there are a bunch of curator lists for that purpose. They're user run and wdon't catch everything but they're a good guide. I personally trust this one 'cause it notes false flags and comes with the occassional very human snark:

I reported a few months ago that in August Microsoft had only 8 million active paying users of Microsoft 365 Copilot. So tired of his company! Wow you’re gonna have 220 million paying subscribers, crazy, are you going to conjure a genie too? How about a dragon? Fantastical bullshit
A more apt comparison might be with Microsoft’s Office 365 productivity app suite, estimated to have around 450 million paying subscribers. While people use ChatGPT for personal purposes, OpenAI has been adding more workplace features, such as the ability for employees to share chats with colleagues and to connect to internal company data through tools like Slack. These features could turn the chatbot into more of a direct competitor to Office 365 and Google Workspace, both of which are adding AI features to automate tasks like writing emails.
