Please call the guy the January 6th pipe bomber.

Fox is calling him the "January 5th bomber" because he planted the bombs the night before but really because they don't want to mention 1/6 as a bad day.

this. i've been divorced for over 16 years. know how many dates i've been on. zilch. nada. none. not even a cup of coffee. what's left is mine for good or for bad. i will lament only my mistakes going forward. too many men are untrustworthy and unkind.

i think that determination was made already when SCOTUS stolen the presidency from Al Gore...
the supreme court birthright citizenship case will not determine the answer to any constitutional question, but it will determine which justices do not meet the bar’s character and fitness requirements

Public hangings "to protect our most vulnerable."

I hate that slimy shit eating way fascists co-opt phrases that actually mean something to mean the opposite.
A Palantir billionaire just called for public hangings.

“It's time to bring back masculine leadership to protect our most vulnerable,” writes Joe Lonsdale.

This is where Silicon Valley authoritarianism is heading:

I came to Tokyo for the first time in three years. There’s currently an exhibition of traditional crafts at Tokyo Midtown Yaesu near Tokyo Station, where one of my workshop’s maki-e steering wheels is on display. It’s an outdoor exhibit, so it’s freezing out here!

Many Japanese craftspeople feel that repairs where the pieces are joined with urushi should be called kintsugi. When modern chemical adhesives are used too casually, we hesitate to use the same name, because the spirit and technique of the craft are quite different.

Focusing on a single incident makes it resonate with the public more. It doesn't somehow justify the other killings, it illustrates the larger problem.

The right is good at this, sometimes in bad faith. For example, Laken Riley.

Basically "one death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic."
Once the debate centers on whether the 2nd strike was legal, the first 21 strikes have been accepted as baseline. But the murder of the two survivors doesn’t make the other 21 any more legal. Selective outrage, not silence, is how authoritarianism becomes normalized @tadstoermer.bsky.social

I say this as someone born in the literal cradle of the confederacy, only a few miles from where the first shots were fired: the civil war was only a partial victory, and ending reconstruction early meant the ideological descendants of slavers and other racists could start playing the long game.
The 13-15th Amendments were adopted after the Civil War in an effort to make America live up to the lofty ideals of its founding. They are systematically trying to undo them.
It starts with knowing the truth. Don’t allow yourselves to be gaslit into believing this is a real question.

Major victory for writers here:
Some rare good news: Journalists at the PEN Guild won their arbitration case against Politico, which deployed two separate faulty AI products (a "report builder" and a headline and summary generator on the homepage) without their knowledge or input.

That violated their contract, the arbiter found.
Journalists win a key battle over AI in the newsroom
PLUS: Artists fight for an AI transparency law in the belly of the beast, a Spotify mass deletion event, and an interview with a top video games journalist about AI and labor.
