I wouldn't call myself a birder so much as someone who can recognise more than a handful of birds and takes an interest in seeing more of them.

One bird I want to see in particular is the mountain bluebird. I've been looking since 2018, maybe this is the year. 🐦

Anyone else got a goal bird?

PWWA members near Vancouver recently enjoyed an extended visit from the A42 & A25 matrilines of NORTHERN Residents. Unlike endangered Southern Residents, the NR population, which also feeds primarily on salmon, is much larger, with ~330-340 individuals.

the only fun thing about being sick is that the bar for an accomplishment is so low now all you have to do is like drink a glass of water and everyone tells you how brave you are

This is going to be fun! I'll be talking about our recent work on dataset subselection for specialization instead of generalization - how do we build optimal models for specific end users given a big pool of generalist data?

Just an absolutely glorious Sunday afternoon. Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving to all who celebrate.

Deep breath checkpoint! If you're doomscrolling, unclench your jaw and take a few deep breaths as you enjoy this Brown Creeper creepin'

Shoddy camerawork and urban park audio, but the bird is too cute not to share

Seamlessly linking key destinations between the Spirit Trail and Seabus terminal, North Vancouver’s Esplanade has been transformed into a complete street. The wider sidewalks, protected bike lanes, and Dutch-style intersections help to create a more safe and welcoming environment for all road users.

One great aspect of iconic inflatable costumes (aside from how they instantly undermine propaganda about war zones) is that it's useless to arrest the person wearing one. Cuffing a frog would make law enforcement look pathetic. And carting one off just guarantees that more will show up the next day.
