I actually credit that the movie was so bad the whole movie making world all realized if they give JJ any more work people would start throwing things at the screen. The one nice thing TROS brought us was making Abrams a cursed name.
It’s crazy how Rise of Skywalker was his Josstice League re: a messy desperate redaction of a cinematic world’s vision for the sake of things you know thar also killed the director’s career (JJ‘s still a producer, but hasn’t directed anything since)

Hong kongers: doing good things, ralling around victims, setting up support.

HKSARG: takes over, confiscated supplies and takes the names of the volunteer groups in what seems like intimidation.

SMH. Guess HKSARG sees any community organisation is a threat.
I have also spoken to a journalist that lives in the neighborhood and he has confirmed that the government "care teams" have started taking over relief centers, kicking out volunteers and taking over supplies donated by the general public.

Pro-democracy parties existed to be thorns in the government’s side — true enough. But the official story, that they “politicised” everything while the establishment camp championed livelihood issues, does not match the reality.

See below for an example of how they also pushed back on local issues.

I worked at a best buy when I was young, and yearly this guy would line up days in advance to walk around, browse, then leave without buying anything. It genuinely planted the seed that turned me against capitalism. I had to leave Thanksgiving dinner early so this fucker could window shop.

black friday savings used to be good. like $100 for a $1000 tv before 6 am.. just another thing zoomers will never know like owning a home or falling in love
I don’t know if anyone actually likes Black Friday but even for a shameless celebration of crass materialism it kinda blows. Every year Amazon is like “want to save 30% on a blender?” and I just think no, leave me alone

I had a student from Latin America who would get annoyed every time America was used to refer to the US, because it encompasses people from two whole continents. A respectable stance, but linguistically ‘American’ does mean “person from the USA”. Means other things too, but that doesn’t negate this
Yeah, not sure where "USians" started, but it's dumb. People understand perfectly well what "Americans" means. We don't need to keep inventing new words to say the same shit.
If your argument involves referring to Americans as “USians” it doesn’t matter how cogent the rest of your point may be tbh

No. The Thing is a movie about a bunch of people who all distrust and hate each other trapped in one building as the tension between them slowly builds until it reaches a breaking point. It's a Thanksgiving movie.

The incident of this type that sticks out in my mind are the several times in - I wanna say Hangzhou or Nanjing (maybe both) - that some park/mall rent-a-cops made a huge stink and detained groups of 20-sthing cosplayers for "Dressing Japanese."

They were wearing hanfu.

7 x 3000+ students + 17 smaller institutions must mean 30,000+ affected students. That’s about the same size as Sheffield uni, which employs 8000ish staff. Why is the government tolerating the impending collapse of up to 24 related employers and 8000+ more lost jobs? Where is the sense of crisis?
Chief exec of OfS 'said the OfS believes there are 24 institutions at risk of exiting the market in the next 12 months, seven of which are large providers with more than 3,000 students. There are another 25 or so institutions of various sizes at risk over a two- to three-year period, she added.'
Seven ‘large providers’ at risk of going under in the next year
Skills minister says no higher education institutions are at imminent risk of collapse this year but OfS confirms more than 20 providers are being closely monitored

I find myself remembering how Chris Tang once said that any art can potentially be clandestine "soft resistance" if the govt thinks it could be interpreted that way.
In case you missed it, government authorities banned the selling of T-shirts with an image showing the hand sign for "LGBT+" in HK Sign language for no apparent reason at the Pride Event last Sunday.
