Snow build-up on the sides of a bike lane (inevitable to some extent) is one of the big reasons Montreal has been preferring wider one-way bike lanes over the two-way designs that used to be standard here.

They’re also better for cargo bikes and higher rush hour volumes.
Because of the snow, I was thinking this was a bi-directional bike lane & when I realized it was just a really wide one way bike lane, I was sad for us in #yycbike with our bi-directional lanes. Don't get me wrong, better than nothing, but this just looks so pleasant.

This is great. Very few people want to go to jail, get disbarred or die for this regime. Make them fight you. They will cave.

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

This could be Milwaukee if we cared
I cannot overstate how weirdly well adapted to winter the people of Minnesota are.

2 inches of snow? 25 degree weather? That's good cycling weather to us.
“No one bikes in the winter.”

Look at all of these bike tracks made outside of the popular commute times. 😍

Winter is fun in Milwaukee because anytime I leave the house an existential rage overtakes me thanks to people who don't shovel.

Milwaukee needs to strongly heed this as well. We spend so much effort on clearing streets, but it’s the sidewalks and bike lanes that should get higher priority in many cases.
Those that lament Chicago’s low ranking in the annual list of bike-friendly cities should pipe down. A city that doesn’t give equal priority to clearing bike and car lanes can’t claim to be a bike-friendly city. This is Clybourn Avenue, which holds a protected bike lane corridor to Downtown.

I am not convinced that the Supreme Court will come not come up with a nakedly partisan reason to reject these maps but (1) Dems should do them anyway and (2) defy federal court orders to the contrary
Democrats can retaliate against these GOP gerrymanders with new maps in Illinois, Maryland, Oregon, & Virginia.

They could flip 7 GOP seats to make up for this & new GOP maps in Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, & possibly soon Indiana.

Imposing costs is the only way to deter the GOP from doing this

The Supreme Court deciding it's entitled to its own facts is every bit as corrosive to democratic society as the breakdown of shared facts/reality caused by media fragmentation and negative partisanship
As Justice Kagan begins her dissent by pointing out, what is even the point of trial, of fact-finding, of clear error, of standards of review, when the Supreme Court simply ignores every single part of that and decides everything purely on the papers without any real consideration of the facts?

Prompts as simple as "[name] address" immediately returned accurate home addresses of private citizens — alongside other personal info we didn't ask for.

Of course this article doesn’t mention that the study Marin county did to inform their proposed local restrictions bill found that adult ebike riders had even less crash risk than adults on pedal bikes. And yet Marin included a Class 2 ebike helmet requirement for adults anyway, w no justification.
Unregulated e-bikes are a growing danger on American streets. In one Bay Area town, a terrible accident finally led to reform. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/30/m...

First, 100% do this. Second, we now live in a "low trust" society. People are only going to get worse about doing these things. We need to rapidly shift to city operated sidewalk clearing
When out shoveling, please be sure to clear snow from sidewalks and bus stops along your property. This helps all our neighbors, especially those who are visually-impaired or who rely on a mobility device, and is in keeping with local ordinances and state statutes.

It’s fun living someplace where leaders will proudly proclaim how walkable we are, yet every street is easily drivable when hundreds of crosswalks are impassible 48 hours later. Whatever they think walkable means, it’s a lower priority than how drivable we are.
so you're telling the system of asking every individual homeowner to shovel their sidewalk promptly doesn't scale??

It’s really most egregious when DPW is actively harming these street users by having no idea they even exist.
People want to walk and bike in the winter. It’s this sort of thing that makes it hard. Imagine trying to push a stroller or using a wheelchair. Yet the road was so clear I saw drivers speeding (feedback boards flashing). Priorities!
