I guess I should introduce myself: Salut! I'm Alanna, or Lansi. WHOA (lansi) cuz I can be a little intense; I'm not for everyone, & that's ok.

I'm an accidental urbanist - we traded our second vehicle for a cargo bike in October 2023. I now do all my running around #YYC by bike, & I love it.

Wow, there it is.

COUNCILLOR MIAN: “there were many of us around the table who struggled with the arena decision, right? We were like: This is a huge decision. It's a lot of money. And it was largely led by the Communities First folks.”

Calgary mayoral candidates are bickering about which arena deal was best—and who got fleeced. And an outgoing city councillor now says progressive councillors voted yes to the deal in 2023 "at great political cost." Here's how the deal got done. (Listen and/or read!) #yyccc

SAVE THE DATE: Kidical Mass YYC's Halloween Ride will be Sunday, Oct 19. Meet at Phil & Sebastian in Mission and ride to Lindsay Park Playground. Hope to see you there, #yycbike ! #kidicalmass
Image with the kidical mass details and some Halloween graphics. There is also an image from the last kidical mass ride of kids on bikes following a woman in yellow on a cargo bike along a residential street. The text also says Halloween costumes welcome and encouraged!

As a student, I lived in Montreal & in Lyon, France & I saved so much time & money just using bikeshare. Lyon's was so cheap (I wanna say you could get a weekly subscription for like...2 euros).

I really dislike the scooter clutter, but the main win for me with Bixi is affordability. It's truly so cheap to have a membership & use it in conjunction with other transit options. Definitely something that is missing when private companies get involved (I've also rented in YVR, & it's so $$$).

You can't sneak between the posts on a bakfiets. They're too close together. I got pushed into traffic. It was confusing to drivers & dangerous to me.
whoalansi.bsky.social
I laughed out loud when I ran into this in person last month. Like....so so close, but so so dangerous. I realized too late that the flexposts were blocking my way & had to maneuver into traffic to get around them on the bakfiets. Confused a bunch of cars & put me in danger.

lol I laughed when I ran into this recently. I ended up having to ride in traffic to get around the posts. smh.

Ooo they do look super cool.

Probably a good call. I'll keep that in mind.

Thanks for the intel! This is a great idea.

Oo good find! I thought it was SO random that Lee Valley had them!

This might be what I go with. I'd like something rechargeable, but I could use rechargeable batteries in it. I'd also really love to find something that lasts a few seasons! Why is this so hard? Haha
whoalansi.bsky.social
Ooo those are fun, & festive!
whoalansi.bsky.social
It does look neat! I'm mostly just trying to figure out if it'll be annoying to remove to charge.
whoalansi.bsky.social
Ooo that's awesome! It's been really dry so my marker on my kids' craft paper is still going strong! I need to look into this!

This is how I'm feeling. The overwhelm of trying to decide what risks to worry about is real. I never smoked, but I do enjoy IPAs and the community events that I've participated in at breweries. & we meal prep a lot & used to use plastic tupperware to store leftovers & cook with non stick....

Ok #yycbike and general #cargobike friends who ride in cold, dark climates. What are you using for fun/festive lights. I had a luminoodle that I loved, but the USB connection is trash & it no longer works. Do I just go back to cheapie fairy lights? Tell me what you're using on your bikes!

I love it! Did you get it printed on something waterproof? Mine are currently just handmade, but I want to make more permanent ones with the QR code to our linktree. I was thinking of maybe printing onto whatever they use for lawn signs during elections, but haven't looked into it much.

A few months ago, a friend visited me in Utrecht. As we biked around to do daily errands, she kept saying, "This is like a dream. This is like a dream."

I do believe all cities the world over to soon come to their senses, limit car movement, and build a dream of safe, abundant streets for people.

I get stopped all the time, but especially now since I left the Kidical Mass posters from our last ride on the side of my bakfiets.

One thing I absolutely love about riding a cargo bike around, is how often people will stop to talk to you about it. Especially if it's outfitted with lots of kid gear and associated stickers 😂

So many people are interested in accessible, non-car ways of getting around. It gives me so much hope
