We aren't out here riding on the sidewalk because we want to. Direct your anger at your city for not prioritizing safe routes for anyone outside of a car. This is what every crossing looks like in my city right now: a wall of snow after the curb cut. & this one isn't even as bad as most.

We also do a lot of this: the accessible curb cut is shoveled and plowed, but then there's a wall of snow immediately after it. Why even bother building accessible infrastructure if you're not going to maintain it during our hyperbolic 18 months of winter.

Calgary, AB. I could have taken hundreds like this, but I like that you can barely tell that it's a sidewalk, it's on a decently steep hill, and it's one of our narrower iterations.

#yycbike report: residential streets are packed down. Reasonably easy riding with studs & maybe some weight in the front of your bakfiets.

I was assured that Balmoral Circus would be a priority snow clearing route when I expressed concerns over some of the design features that are dangerous when they get icy. Is this what passes for cleared? This is a main connection along a bikeway. #yycbike

#yycbike report: route through confed to 24th is fine. One side is plowed better than the other. 24th could be much better. Street plows clearly cleared into the cycle track. Once you cross crowchild...good luck. Uni is meh, as it is every winter. Take the lane through campus.

& the back part of my out & back commute for school drop off. The snow on the trees & the sunrise in the distance are just a couple things that bring me joy on winter bike commutes. #yycbike

#YYCbike report : snow on residential routes is quite packed down. It's no match for a decent set of studded winter tires. Definitely the season of keeping steady momentum to stay upright. Really wish there was better daylighting around these intersections.

#yycbike report: typical Calgary dry, fluffy fun stuff. Even if you don't have your winter tires on, it's quite fun. Recommend avoiding the car today cuz driving in this looks like my nightmare.

My daughter's lone bike parked at school. Prior to Tuesday's snowfall, there were still 4-5 bikes locked here. Hopefully when it melts, we'll see them back again. It was a great fall for active transportation. #yycbike

We're still riding to school with our friends (they've switched to the trail-a-bike). Some icy sections, especially at the entrance to the schoolyard, but overall not bad. A did great & is still asking for winter tires. #yycbike

Little bit wet on the ride home today. My hair is soaked & I regret not wearing my ski helmet & goggles. I think it's gonna be pretty icy tomorrow morning though! #yycbike
