For the Shadow of the Colossus story, we interviewed 14 people including project leads Fumito Ueda and Kenji Kaido, hired Gravity Rush concept artist Takeshi Oga to illustrate the cover, and put together a 10,000-word story with help from @milkman.bsky.social @shmuplations.bsky.social and others.
Shadow of the Colossus: An oral history
Celebrate the 20th anniversary of Team Ico’s masterpiece by looking back with 11 people who worked on it (and three who didn’t).

Yesssss! This is amazing. I also played it with both kids when they were way too young ❤️

This gave me instant panic-soaked flashbacks. Circa 2006-ish, loads of large ad agencies & studios swapped out their big clunky CRTs for exciting new, flat LCD monitors. All with the worst colour gamut imaginable...

"There's a LOT of banding in the gradients. Pls fix!!!" 💀💀💀💀💀

One thing to ferrule them all….

Yep. Everyone looks at these things backwards. They’re trying to start off with something that can only happen organically. It’s just like all the NFT dipshits, trying to make a popular brand, but forgetting to have any product or service.

Yep, I come up against it a LOT with prospective clients. At least it's a self-regulating situation. Anyone operating on those delusions of grandeur, will never obtain it.

Right!? Saying "This is going to be a franchise" is such an insane starting point, for ANY project.

It's hard enough to make anything good when you're *directly* thinking about it, let alone staring off into the distance, huffing your own farts.

Frantically scrawling "CAT ASSASSIN GAME FROM DAVE BAUTISTA AND STRAY WRITER IS THE START OF A NEW NEO-NOIR MULTIMEDIA FRANCHISE" on the padded walls of my cell
A screenshot of an Instagram post from Game Rant. There is a render of a 3d/cgi cat character and a photo of Dave Bautista. The text reads "CAT ASSASSIN GAME

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Absolutely over the moon to learn that 'DUCKS' will be screening, in competition, at the 38th Foyle Film Festival!

Mind-bogglingly, this is the second Academy Award qualifying and seventh BAFTA qualifying festival has made it into, to date 🤯
A still scene from my 3D/CGI animated short film 'DUCKS'. It shows two ducks swimming on a lake. There is a white 'Official Selection Foyle Film Festival 2025' laurel suspended above them and reflecting in the water's surface.

Right!? Just some normal ducks, going about their business. I’m guessing they wanted a little palate cleanser in the mix 🤷

Common Side Effects is SO good! I got to meet Joe Bennett in Berlin a couple of years ago. He had a brand new baby & I was telling him that something YOU had said always stuck with me during those insane tiny baby times… That having kids was so great, that you & your wife had more, on purpose ❤️

Decided to take my time on these if I'm enjoying the process, which I am!
A traditional pen and ink cartoon drawing. It depicts a scene in a hall, with two large black archways. In the darkness are the glowing eyes and teeth of large, unknown creatures. In the foreground, there is a panicked blue frog type character, desperately trying to lift a heavy mace. There's a small crystal character stood, facing the right hand archway, waving at the creature.
