There are a lot of newer organizers who are nonetheless finding themselves in leadership positions right now. Here is something I learned during Trump 1: find your new people an easy win. Something to do that they can accomplish and will not immediately have them in fist fights or getting arrested.

One of my very first bird photos where everything came together: eye in focus, nice pose, background separation, the whole enchilada.

The winner of today's one-liner goes to a guy who looked like he was sleeping.

Scene: the ENT clinic, waiting for audiologist

Asst calls a name three times.

Asst (just loudly enough to be heard): I really wish people would pay attention.

Guy: I bet many of the people here wish they could hear.

Merino wool undergarments. Much better at wicking moisture than cotton, doesn't get stank like synthetics. I wear them year round. Unfortunately they only seem to be made by sporty brands so size inclusivity is somewhat lacking.

Socks. Good socks make a huge difference in how my feet feel, and are totally worth being labeled "bougie" for.

I don’t ever want to hear any “pro-family” bullshit from this Administration ever again. Cutting off $10 billion for child care in California and 4 other blue states will make kids, parents, families, and providers suffer. This is disgusting political retribution.

I'm in the Virgin Islands for a bit of family vacation, and found room in my luggage for my camera and a couple lenses. These are two bird portraits from the Phantasea Botanical Gardens on Christmas Eve: a bananaquit and a green-throated carib.

Hey, it's my print debut for National Geographic! This fall, I got to accompany folks from the Fort Worth Zoo on an incredible adorable mission: releasing tiny Texas horned lizards to new lives in the Hill Country.

(You will want to click on this one, trust me. The photos are adorable.)
Is the grumpy-faced Texas horned lizard adorable enough to survive?
As habitat loss and invasive predators decimate the Texas horned lizard population, researchers are banking on statewide fervor to bring them back.

I'm an "A.i." abolitionist.

No consumer-facing LLMs or generative "A.i." in anything.

Sure, machine learning in science and a few other limited applications is fine.

But consumer-facing LLMs and generative "A.i." that are based on theft, push disinfo, and can be manipulated by billionaires?

No.

Thread up and down. I 100% agree with Jane's take here, and I'll add one more: rich families are more likely to have the kinds of jobs that afford you the flexibility to advocate for your kids.
Rich families are the ones who can afford private testing, the ones who can afford to hire educational advocates and lawyers. They're the ones who have the resources and knowledge to empower their kids. So it's really not a surprise that colleges with a lot of rich kids have a lot of accomodations.
